Hello all, how are things?
Was thinking a bit last night (I know, it came as a shock to me as well), and got onto the idea of a small LO BFG forum competition. This area of the forum can get a little sleepy at times, so I thought it might be a good idea to get everyone working together (read as "against one another") and take part in a competition of sorts. What I had in mind was a "design a new *insert designable thing here*" type contest. It can be for anything; ship, scenario, attack craft rules, you name it.
So, the point of this thread is to gather some people's ideas on the subject. First off I need to know if anyone is actually interested in such a thing. I would also like to know what sort of things you guys would like to design. I know very little about the rules of running a contest on LO, so anyone with knowledge on that please fill me in.
If there is enough interest in this competition, I will take my idea to a mod and see if we can go ahead.
Cheers for listening guys, would be great to hear your opinions and ideas.
Brilliant idea Rich!
Well, seeing as Fanatic has just ahd a ship designing competition, maybe we should have something a bit different.
Perhaps a BFG art competition? Or fluff writing?
Anyway, once we have decided I suppose you will have to appoint a panel of judges. Also, decide on a prize of sorts.
Hmmm, really good idea
Yeah, I agree about the recent fanatic online comp. Another ship design would probably be a bit pointless. Fluff and art are good ideas. The main idea set in my mind from the start had been fluff writing actually, I just didnt want to bias anyone with my last post (I'll do it with this post instead)
OK, so one person aboad! Anyone else fancy it?
Well if you want mod support you got it from me
Aye, I've just started BFG, So aye, count me in. I wouldn't mind writing a short story, I've been meaning to do some writing work for a few weeks now.
Hmm what about a BFG votewar? Each participant builds a X point fleet, then hold a tournement to see wich fleet conquers all. It's pretty popular among the 40K croud, I think we could make one a success.
Votewar MKV 2nd place. . .
Back from internet limbo, and glad to be here.
Hmm, I'm not too fond of the vote war things tbh, I'd rather see something more creative.
I'd like to see a scenario contest... But only because I don't care for most of the GW fluff. If you guys prefer that, maybe we could do scenario's next.
On the other hand, I wouldn't mind reading a little fluff, it couldn't hurt in case I want to try writing some later.

Excellent, nice to see some more faces.I agree with you...short story comp is a good idea:yes:Originally Posted by Will JWhilst your idea has merit, I think it would be better if this stayed as a creative writing competition. Maybe you could start a BFG votewar thread and see if it catches on, you may be onto something good! Would you still like to enter? The more the merrier!Originally Posted by JORMAGIHey Rogoth, nice to see you posting here. A scenario design was another option I considered which I believe holds real merit. I am of the opinion that it would be better to start with something a bit more creative, to get people participating without the worry of not knowing the rules well enough to write a scenario. This would be better for those new to BFG who still want to take part, hopefully introducing them to the game. If the competition proves successful I was thinking of getting a semi-regular one going; maybe the next one can be a scenario.Originally Posted by Rogoth
However, if several more people show interest in writing scenarios then we'll go that way and do the fluff competition next. If you don't want to write fluff then you are welcome to help me in judging the competition - I'm looking for a couple of people to help me judge it, so anyone interested in this should post here as well.
General stuff: I was thinking the word limit should be 3000 words. This should give more than enough space to write a good short story. Also, thoughts for prizes include:
- One of those green awards on your personal profile (look here if you don't know what these are)
- Possibly some rep
- Maybe getting the article put in the LO magazine
None of these prizes are confirmed yet, they are just ideas at the moment...any comments?
Fantastic response sofar guys, any other takers?
