First post for me
Just looking to get into BFG now, after playing 40k off and on since 2nd ed.
Interested in a SM fleet to complement my SM army and WH army in 40k.
This was what I was planning to buy, hopefully making a decent list. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Master of the Fleet - one reroll
>3 Strike Cruisers
>3 Gladius Frigates
>3 Nova Frigates
>4 Cobra Destroyers
>2 Hunter Destroyers
Comes to 995 points including the Master of the Fleet and one re-roll.
Thanks for your input
I think you are off to a good start there mate. You have several Strike Cruisers - a key part of any SM fleet. You also have a good core of escorts which is always very useful. One thing I am very glad to see is that you have avoided getting a BattleBarge; they really are too expensive for anything under 1500 points.
The one point I would like to bring up is rearding the Cobra and Hunter escorts. You seem to have an odd mix of these. It might be better to change one of the Cobras for a Hunter (you have 5 points spare to do this) so that you have squadrons of three. A squadron of two 2x torpedo ships gives you a rather small salvo to play with, I find three ships is better for these kinds of squadrons. You could always mix one Cobra in with the squadron of Hunters, but they have different top speeds, meaning mixing them would restrict the faster Hunters. Just a suggestion though - it will make very little difference on the tabletop. How do you plan on squadroning your escorts?
If you are looking to expand this fleet in the future, I would suggest getting another Strike Cruiser and another squadron of Gladius Escorts. The Gladius is fast and has a really nasty amount of weapons batteries, allowing it to fulfill a number of roles in the fleet. Alternatively you could go for more Cobras/Hunters if you wanted to buff up your torpedo capacity. I would avoid getting a BattleBarge until you have at least 1500 points of other ships, as they are expensive points wise and not really that useful in smaller battles as they detract from the rest of your fleet.
Overall a good fleet list mate. I wish you the best of luck with it.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and welcome to LO mate. Its a great forum with loads of friendly members. Take a look at the rules (the blue menu bar across the top of the page will take you there) and get posting!
Looks like i just bought a much bigger fleet than I expected (it was a bargain at $200 AUD):
1 Battle Barge
4 Strike Cruisers
6 Nova FFG
6 Gladius FFG
6 Hunter DDG
Lots of Thunderhawks.
I can do a 1500 point list by taking everything but the battle barge, and a 2000 point list with the BB and an extra re-roll.
For 1500 points I figured that i'd have 4 SC's with an escort Sqn of Frigates each (2 with Nova and 2 with Gladius) and then have the two hunter sqn's as flanking units. Torpedo shotgun into the flank!
