Just as the title asks, is necromunda popular and has it ever had a peak in it's popularity?
Also does anyone here have any ideas to help me convince my friends at my club to start playing, or at least consider playing?
And just one more question, How often do you good ol'e folks check the necromunda board? I check it whenever I'm on librarium.

Yes it was popular.... once
Now it has declined entering in obscurity. Although never as wide spread as Blood Bowl but it still has a hard core gamer following. If you need tips to help you get a campaign running just play a game and make sure you have a flamer and something that uses sustained fire. And don't forget to mention the drugs, alcohol, treachery, mutation and bitter struggle for survival....
Years ago (around 10 or so), Games Workshop came out with many games along the lines of Necromunda. This was during 2nd edition 40k, which is what the rules were based on. At that time, just to play 40k properly you needed a boxed set, another boxed set of vehicle, wargear, special cards, and your Codex. Not to say this was bad, but now it wont fly. In those days most of the gamers I knew were more than happy to have more boxes full of goodies to buy. It just seemed the mindset then.
So you had games like Space Hulk early on (terminators vs Genestealers in a puzzle-like space ship board). Following that were the skirmish style, advance your team, boxed games like Necromunda, Blood Bowl, and Mordheim. These games brought more detail to the basic rules and allowed you to make a more customizable force that would improve as they gained experience/money/etc. Many people still want a game like that. My brother is more a fan of that style game than the basic "big battle" games. Your gaming buddies would likely be interrested in Necromunda if they like role-playing games, either pen-and-paper or online like Everquest, where character advancement is the focus.
At the same time GW came out with Talisman, a Warhammer world board game, and Warhammer Quest (similar to Heroquest if you remember that), which was a dumbed-down board game version of an RPG (not using dumbed-down in a negative way, just a descriptive one).
So was Necromunda popular? Yes, when it came out it was the next new thing. It saw many pages of White Dwarf and was played quite frequently at my local game store at least. It offered more fluff for the 40k universe, the chance to build very customizable forces, make unique conversions, and build interresting city terrain that would be out of the scope of a regular 40k game. Is it still popular? Not really. Like everything in the business, if it doesnt have room to grow, with new units, revisions, and models to be hyped, it will die out. But the wonderful thing about wargames is, once the rulebook is published, the rules never go bad. It can certainly gain a new popularity amoung you and your friends, which is really all that matters anyway. Good luck, and I hope you can find a new game to pass the time with your friends. I still play games of 1st and 2nd edition 40k with my friends every now and then for old times sake.
Tis a sad thought, but a true one. Necromunda isn't very popular, but it is VERY fun. Seriously, it's like...minurature Inquisitor with winners! (Ok, bad example). Anywho, really, the game is just awesome, the sheer feel of gangs down in the dirt and lawless bottem of a miles high tower in the middle of a desolate plante just is so cool. Think a mix of judge dread and starwars: Knights of the old republic. Tres cool.
Anyway, I don't really mind if it isn't too popular, because where I live, not many ppl play 40k as it is, but it is growing. Actually, to tell the truth, ATM i'm the only one here who plays Necromunda...(nerd much? :tongue As long as some of my friends end up playing (yes, my brother is getting some, and so is my friend, so...im working on it), i'm happy.
Besides, it gives us Necro-players an evil, underground cult that shuns the light type feel
Oh, and I try to check the Necromunda section every day.
Cheers! and good hunting!

Yeah, as has been said above, Necromunda isn't all that popular anymore. It's a real shame as I think it is one of the best games GW has ever produced. I think it would beneift from some more WD exposure to get more new players interested, but that is a whole different discussion.
As for checking this board, I do so evertime I come onto LO. It pretty quiet here though, so I don't post here very often. We should get some good Necromunda conversations up and running, maybe it'll attract some people to the game.
At my local (GW) store, we sort of found out one day that a whole bunch of us used to play necromunda, and all of us who did, loved it.
So we really talked about a large necromunda showing at the next specialist games tournament, and managed to get a medium sized gathering to rock up - was an awesome day.
Now we are thinking (quite seriously) about starting up a proper, high quality campaign, several vets and a few newbies. At the moment we'll probably have about 6 people playing at first, but I wouldn't be surprised if many more expressed interest, seeing as a few others have already. It would be awesome if this idea took actual flight.
Its kinda strange, but I think it might be picking up a bit of life again in my area. Awesome.
In fact, if people are interested enough and live in my area (Melbourne), PM me, and i'll let you know what (if anything) is going to happen. Should be fun, and the more the merrier!
-Edit (extra info, if you are interested)
Some of the (fully painted) gangs already seen fielded:
Delaque (Mine, painted up like the black panthers)
Goliath (loads of real metal models, well painted, not like those plastic ones you got in the boxed set, his gang looks awesome)
Skavvies (fantastic looking gang, beautifully painted and converted from scaven, this guy won the tournament meantioned earlier)
Redemptionists (awsome looking)
Escher (also awesome)
Orlock (metal, yet again awesome)
There were more at the tourney, but they might not be showing at the campaign. Then again, who knows?
the campaign will have lots of awesome stuff, like hive events etc, and should be loads of fun as an ongoing event!

Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
Noooo....why does no Necro players live up here?!?!?

ItĀ“s really sad that Necromunda have disapeared from most Gaming Clubs.
It might have something to do with the fact that they donĀ“t sell many Necromunda minis in most stores. And the fact that many people are badly informed about itĀ“s existance.
Something every Necromunda player should do is to tell their friends about it.
Tell them about the endless converting posibilities (To combine Fantasy and 40K freely  ), the endless posibilities (well...), the amazing gameplay etc.
Just inform them of the games existance and the cost of the game is so low.
You don+t even have to buy the rulebook. ItĀ“s a free download and all.
You donĀ“t have to buy the exact models. You can convert them all and make it a very cheap game indeed! (ThatĀ“s what iĀ“m doing).
And I noticed that some people are looking in this part of the forum quite often.
To you, why donĀ“t you post anything/anywhere?. Why not show your gang, give us a battle report, start a blog or something?.
I have tried to start a blog here. But itĀ“s quite sad with the low amount of posts in it.
You could just check it out or something. If your just in here looking around, why not take a look?. It might inspire you to start a gang of your own. I will post battle reports of every game I play(some biger than others...), I will post every miniature I convert and all show you my gangs progress in the Underhive.
Just start posting something. Gang lists, tacticas, painted/WIP miniatures/Gangs.
Just anything. LetĀ“s blow life in this amazing game once again.
Lets resurect Necromunda once again  .
Good thinking. That is exactly the way fans can move mountains. Good luck to all!
