Recently, I've tried transitioning my Inquisitor into a Witch Hunters army for 40k. Not only has it been challenging, its down right difficult.
How can I go about doing this and keep the flavor of the character? I'd also like to keep my characters in as part of the retinue, but I'm not sure how...
I seem to remember a rather colourful retinue with the kind of 'dirty' background given to Disney(Sp.) characters.
Basically it's the same as trying to create an =][= character(without nearly so much freedom), Choose your Architype(Whichhunterr retinue gets(from memory) gladiators, sister hospitler, penitant(bound psykers) and familiars) then tweek until the feel is the same.
Your Inquisitor will take some more work but under goes essentially the same process. Replace her powers with the closest Acceptable power for an Inquisitor, Hand flamers are often carried by witchhunters so hat is not a problem.
Note: trying to force a charicter into another format is never advisable, you can end up twisting them beyond recognition. if this occurs drop the project. this is perhaps the Shiniest pearl I have to give you.
Realy Hope I helped.

The fact is that the sort of character best suited to INQ doesn't work well on the 40k battlefield. Borderline hack n' slash types like Tyrus just about translate but your average trench-coat wearing, stubber-wielding investigator, used to somersaulting his way around a crowded cityscape just doesn't belong on a battlefield.
However, that said, I would recommend that you think outside the box when thinking about the question. Don't restrict yourself to the Inquisitor Lord and Inquisitor troop types. Your Inquisitor may take to the field at the head of a squad of Inquisitorial Storm Troopers ("counts as" Veteran Sergeant), or as a deadly, infiltrating assassin ("counts as" a Death Cultist). Or perhaps he's more likely to be joining a squad of Sisters or even some inducted Imperial Guard, giving them fire for the battle by reciting Imperial litanies (or just veiled threats) ("counts as" Priest).
Maybe he'll have nothing to do with the conventional forces of the Inquisition at all, preferring to rely on the stury yeomen of the Imperium (counts as "Commissar" in an IG army), or leads a ragged band of desperados and disinherited outcasts (counts as "Aspiring Champion" in a LATD army).
Multiple possibilities. It just needs you to find the right mind-set.
