After recently visitng Warhammer World near me (Games Workshop HQ in the U.K.), I found some Necromunda players and watched them play a few games in their campaign. Having been out of the Games Workshop hobby for several years and coming back to the change from 2nd edition 40k to 4th edition, Necromunda was a good reminder of what was good in 2nd Ed and so I have decided to start a gang and join the other gamers!
I have decided to go for Van Saar because I like the concept of a sophisticated, efficient and adept group of skilled shooters bringing order to the unruly underhive. My starting fluff is a group of 4 brothers having been exiled from the manufactory they worked in because they were caught selling arms to illegal traders. The profits they had stashed were mostly used to pay off the law and protect their wives and children and keep them on the good level in the hive city, whilst they must venture down to find wealth to buy their redemption in their hope to return to the upper echelons.
Outcast from the Van Saar household because of their actions, they must now take themselves and their close friends into the dirty world of gang warfare and claim territory. The Brothers are lead by Maxwell, the middle brothers are a pair of twins and the youngest is
210 Maxwell (leader) armed with a plasmagun and bolt pistol
75 Mark I (ganger) armed with a lasgun
75 Mark II (ganger) armed with a lasgun
100 Maarten (ganger) armed with a shotgun with bolt rounds and an autopistol
Accompanying the brothers is several of their close friends who also lost their jobs and were shamed in the black market weapon scam. Included in this bunch is Maven, the confidant of Maxwell and an expert weapons handler.
155 Maven (heavy) armed with a plasmagun and lasgun
75 Krist (ganger) armed with a lasgun
90 Kadeem (ganger) armed with a shotgun with manstopper rounds and an autopistol
90 Carrig (ganger) armed with a shotgun with bolt rounds and an autopistol
Maarten's son has also snuck along to join the gang and with him comes his close friend and son of Maven, Baine.
40 Tadd (juve) armed with an autopistol
40 Bain (juve) armed with an autopistol
total = 960
Opinions and advice on my gang appreciated and hopefully after a few games my fluff will expand.

I play Van Saar in a campaign that I suspect will take us the rest of our lives to play out! We're currently on turn 7 and there's 6 fights (5 between me and one player). Because of work/time constraints it's already taken us 5 weeks for this turn and we're only on the 3rd scrap!
A couple of suggestions, firstly - don't forget that all your guys get a free knife. Second, I'd really try and give your heavy a proper heavy weapon (heavy stubber is my personal choice). They are more expensive of course and you'll need to find the funds from somewhere but you do get following fire with the heavy stubber which can really make a mess of a few of his fellas...
Fluff looks promising - not something I've put any time into other than gang/ganger names but should flesh it out a bit in the near future.
Thanks for the reply but I have already played 4 games and had 5 deaths so far.
I found the two plasma guns on the leader and heavy worked well in tandem, alternate firing them on max power for the sustained fire and high impact bonus was very effective. Also they were able to move and shoot unlike heavy weapons, movement was very important and because they fire fewer shots than something like a heavy stubber they never went out of ammo.
The free knife is a given, I have it noted at the bottom of my roster to save space in the injury/gear box!
Looking forward to using my gang again soon.
