Social Blood Bowl League - Northern Virginia

This is a double from gaming clubs, hope that's alright ...

Named "Northern Virginia Blood Bowl (NVB for short)," I run a league in the DC Metro area.

It's well-developed, well-run (I'd like to think) and socially oriented (so not ultra high competition).

If you happen to play Blood Bowl (or would like to) in the area, most of us are fairly new to the game, and it's a lot of fun. Feel free to message me on forums for a copy of the league roolz, and other docs. Prizes are awarded at the end of each season (3 months per with a play-off tourney at the end), and monthly newsletters/power rankings are produced, along with other fun stuff.

Hey MVBrandt, a guy from work and myself are looking at potentially starting Bloodbowl (because he thinks it looks hilarious and I wouldn't mind giving one of the specialist games a shot). Just had a few questions...

First of all, how fun is it? What's a game like? And of course, how are the models? They seem to be rather old - is conversion a possibility?

We're in the Fairfax area currently so if we got into the game, I'm sure we'd be interested in finding some other people to play with. We haven't decided on that yet; I'm still working on getting a 40k army together and he's considering starting 40k as well.

Blood Bowl is cheap and easy to start, and conversions are certainly a possibility. My own team is a bunch of converted Lizardmen (not the blood bowl minis), and I've had a lot of fun converting my roommate's Ork team entirely from 40k Ork Boyz minis. They look fantastic, and just like football players.

My opinion is that the old Blood Bowl plastics look like crap, but some of the metal teams are solid enough.

The game's far less argument-prone than any of the other games, b/c there's no measurement/line of sight/etc. The rules are what htey are, you live by them, and you acknowledge that the game is very luck prone and *shrug*

It's a TON of fun - I prefer it to 40k now, and to fantasy (which I don't much care for anyway). The game's fairly fast, with a maximum time of 2.25 hours not counting kick-off set-up and pre/post-game. Once you know how to play, it's a 2 hour total game time. It's very tactically deep, but it's a beer and pretzels game ... fairly easy to figure out, difficult to master, but subsequently easy to teach people and easy to follow by observing. It's a GREAT spectator sport, with close matches garnering tons of cheers and jeers from whoever happens to be watching. League nights at my place are a blast, with beer/chips/blood bowl galore.

Overall I'd say it's my favorite GW game, but obviously is somewhat simple once your team is built and all. I entertain myself by making skink cheerleaders.

Looking to join a blood bowl league

    Hey Mike,

I am looking to join a blood bowl league and am currently living in Northern Virginia. I am new to the game and would like to discuss more with you concerning your league if possible. I can be contacted at gchace@gmail.com.

Gordon is in the league now, and a welcome addition.

This is a bump for the league.

We've been through 2 seasons, with around 16 teams now active in the league. Season 2 play-offs are ongoing right now, with the "Super Bowl" between Season 1 and Season 2 champs during the day of the actual Super Bowl, at the Springfield GW (residing place of GW's North America manager of the year, and a fantastic store).

For anyone interested in Blood Bowl, or who already plays it, in the DC / MD / VA area, this is a ton of fun and pretty low key / low pressure.

We'll be taking the month of February off, starting Season 3 in March. I'll be happy to take time to show interested people how to play Blood Bowl during Feb.

Also, if you don't have a Blood Bowl team, and don't want to go through the hassle of painting / assembling one, we use a variety of rules to make it easy to play with Fantasy or 40k miniatures that you already own.

PM me or post here if you're interested.
