Its a torny that will be held early next year as far as i can tell. Was invited by a mate and wondering if anyone else has heard of it (its in the uk folks, hartlepool i think).
Rules state you get 1,100,000 per team and that you dont get spp and any deaths/injuries are 'recovered' by the next match. You also get 160,000 to get extra training for your team by giving then bonus skills from a list for a certain price with rules such as no more than 2 players can purchase the same skill.
My team is Necros
5 x zombies
2 x wights
1 x ghoul
1 x flesh golem
2 x werewolves
3 x re rolls
Plenty of money left over so should i get an extra re roll, more fan factor, a wondering wizard or substitutes? Personally i think subs and ff are a waste of time because they will only have an effect on the game at present not for future matches as the team comes back as fresh as a daisy for the next match and no gold is won.
For the extra training i was going to give both my werewolves block and mighty blow, if any gold left then sure hands on the ghoul.
There are six games in the torny and the points work out if you win by 2 or more, win by 1 or more, draw, lose by 1 ore more, lose by 2 or more. Cant remember the exact points for each but its about 3 for lose by 2 or more and 13 for win by 2 or more..
Any thoughts on the team guys or tips for tourny play?
I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand
Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.
It is indeed held in Hartlepool and I'm good friends with the guys running it. Never been myself but I understand it's a superb event and well worth going.
I would like to see these extra training rules for team building. It's interesting to see how other people attempt to make BB tourneys fun, and from that, what they think is overpowering.
There are a lot of other questions though; is it using LRB5? Are there any rule changes from the book? Do you gain additional skills ( like 1 per game ) during the tourney? Are there going to be Swiss style pairing?
With extra points for winning with 2+ scores, I would think that teams that normally win by 1-0 or 2-1 like dwarves will be under represented. With the structure of the extra training, it's a tossup for the team that I would play.
If interested I suggest checking out Untitled, much more information on there I'm sure.
From memory though, the extra training rules mean you can simply buy skills for your players before game 1, with a limit of 2 of each skill per team, one skill per player, and skills costing an amount commensurate amount of gold. Beause of this, I very much doubt you will be able to get any skills after games. The vast majority of tourneys are random first round (by virtue of being unable to have a reliable measure of skill pre game) and then swiss for all subsequent rounds.
I'd imagine that the ruleset will be LRB6 now, it recently replaced LRB5 (or will be soon ) and the only usual rules change is "anyone using the 4 minute rule or illegal procedure is kicked in the nuts".
The extra points for winning could in theory benefit high scoring teams but the reality is the game is currently more biased towards bashy teams. It'd be a brave man to take any AG team to a tourney where the competition will be of the standard that Monkeybowl will witness!
edit: why is my link coming out as Untitled?
