    New Witch Hunters Warband

Not sure how much activity there is in this section of the forum but any advice would be much appreciated.

We're starting a Mordheim campaign at my store and after looking over the different warbands I've taken a liking to the witch hunters, mostly for fluff reasons and because I want to use these 2 models

After looking around at a few different sites and tacticas I was thinking of this for my starting warband:

    Witch Hunter Captain
    -Crossbow
    -Sword
    -Buckler

    Witch Hunter
    -Crossbow
    -Mace

    Witch Hunter
    -Crossbow
    -Mace

    Witch Hunter
    -Crossbow
    -Mace

    Warrior Priest
    -Mace
    -Mace
    -Helmet

    Flagellant
    -Flail

    Flagellant
    -Flail

    5 War Hounds

comes to 500 even if my math is right

The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. Bring them understanding of the power of ourselves through our strength and their fear. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all fragments will be smashed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be consumed

Almost 300 views and no comments?....I suspect bots and/or gremlins are to blame. Anyway at the end of week one and 3 games my warband looks like:

Witch Hunter Captain (+1 BS, Quick Shot)
    -Crossbow
    -Sword
    -Buckler
    -Rope and Hook
    -Shield
    -Lucky Charm

    Witch Hunter (+1 BS)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Rope and Hook
    -Sword

    Witch Hunter (+1 Ld)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Rope and Hook

    Witch Hunter (+1 Ld)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Rope and Hook

Warrior Priest (Hammer of Sigmar, +1 A)
    -Mace
    -Mace
    -Helmet
    -Crossbow
    -Shield

    Flagellant (+1 I)
    -Flail

    2 Flagellants (+1 A)
    -Flail

    4 War Hounds

And I'm sitting on about 120 gc. Thinking about buying helmets and/or shields for all my WH and Captain and hiring an Elf Ranger. Also thinking about picking up a cookbook for future use

Ok 2 more games down and I'm looking like this.

Witch Hunter Captain (+1 BS, Quick Shot, Dodge)
    -Crossbow (Blessed)
    -Sword
    -Buckler
    -Rope and Hook
    -Shield
    -Lucky Charm
    -Helmet

    Witch Hunter (+1 BS, +1 S)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Rope and Hook
    -Sword
    -Helmet

Witch Hunter (+1 Ld, Quick Shot)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Rope and Hook
    -Helmet

    Witch Hunter (+1 Ld)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Rope and Hook
    -Helmet

Warrior Priest (Hammer of Sigmar, +1 A)
    -Mace
    -Mace
    -Helmet
    -Crossbow
    -Shield

    Flagellant Hero (New Skill)
    -Flail

    2 Flagellants (+1 A, +1 WS)
    -Flail

    4 War Hounds

    Elf Ranger (+1 BS)
    -Elf Bow
    -Sword
    -Elf Cloak

My warhounds refuse to die. I generally have 2-3 go OOA each game but haven't had one die since maybe my first 2 games. My flagellant warband is looking pretty serious, I'm probably gonna have to start dismissing dogs so I can max them before their XP is too high, unfortunately I rolled a 2 for veteran XP last game. Also not sure what to do with the Flagellant Hero's skills, I'm thinking Strength and Speed, but Combat is tempting because of Strike to Injure and Step Aside.

When it comes to your hero Flagellant's skills, my opinion is that Speed is the better option due to increased charge range, jump up and dodge. Combat is nice, for sure, but Speed grants you a better chance at actually getting into combat.

Yeah I think I've settled on speed and strength. But I'm a bit stumped as to what my first skill should be. On the strength side Mighty Blow will help if combat lasts longer than 1 round, Strongman does the same thing but a bit better (although I'd need to buy him a new weapon), while Resilient helps him stay in the fight. As far as speed goes Jump up and Dodge have obvious benefits, Sprint seems good but he'll outpace my other flagellants (although it makes him a lot better at counter-charging), Scale Sheer Surfaces and Acrobat seem fun but probably not the best choice for his first skill. I'm torn between defense to keep him alive (Resilient, dodge, jump up) or offense to help him level faster(Mighty Blow, Strongman, Sprint).

Also is it worth getting him an Ilithmar weapon (flail or DHW) or should I probably wait till he gets a bit tougher.

As he is already a Hero, he's tough enough. If you want to invest into a new weapon, by all means go for an Ithilmar two-hander and the Strongman talent, followed by Resilient and Mighty Blow.

Ok so week 3 is about to start and I'm going into it with this:

Witch Hunter Captain (+1 BS, Quick Shot, Dodge, +1 A)
    -Crossbow (Blessed)
    -Sword
    -Buckler
    -Rope and Hook
    -Shield
    -Lucky Charm
    -Helmet

    Witch Hunter (+1 BS, +1 S, +1 W)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Rope and Hook
    -Sword
    -Helmet

Witch Hunter (+1 Ld, Quick Shot, +1 BS)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Rope and Hook
    -Helmet
    -Lucky Charm

    Witch Hunter (+1 Ld, +1 A)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Mace
    -Rope and Hook
    -Helmet

Warrior Priest (Hammer of Sigmar, +1 A, +1 A, Strike to Injure)
    -Mace
    -Ilithmar Mace
    -Helmet
    -Crossbow
    -Shield

    Flagellant Hero (Resilient, +1 WS)
    -Flail
    -Lucky Charm

    3 Flagellants (+1 A, +1 WS)
    -Flail

    4 War Hounds

    Elf Ranger (+1 BS)
    -Elf Bow
    -Sword
    -Elf Cloak

    Halfling Scout
    -Bow
    -Dagger
    -Helmet

To be honest I'm not entirely sure where to go from here. I plan on maxing the Flagellants (with a cookbook and dropping a hound as needed). And the mercs I was looking at adding were probably Road Warden (more crossbows!!!), Pit Fighter, and a Freelance Knight (mostly because of how much they add to my warband rating, also Tilean markmen aren't allowed).

After 2 games in week 3 this is where I'm at:

Witch Hunter Captain (+1 BS, Quick Shot, Dodge, +1 A, Trick Shooter, New Skill)
    -Crossbow (Blessed)
    -Sword
    -Buckler
    -Rope and Hook
    -Shield
    -Lucky Charm
    -Helmet
    -Morheim Master Map

    Witch Hunter (+1 BS, +1 S, +1 W, Quick Shot)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Rope and Hook
    -Sword
    -Helmet
    -Shield
    -Lucky Charm
    -Cook book

    (New) Witch Hunter (Quick Shot)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Shield
    -Helmet
    -Lucky Charm

    Witch Hunter (+1 Ld, +1 A, -1 T, +1 W)
    -Crossbow
    -Mace
    -Mace
    -Rope and Hook
    -Helmet
    -Shield
    -Lucky Charm

Warrior Priest (Hammer of Sigmar, +1 A, +1 A, Strike to Injure)
    -Mace
    -Ilithmar Mace
    -Helmet
    -Crossbow
    -Shield
    -Lucky Charm

    Flagellant Hero (Resilient, +1 WS, +1 I)
    -Flail
    -Lucky Charm

    4 Flagellants (+1 A, +1 WS)
    -Flail

    4 War Hounds

Elf Ranger (+1 BS, Quick Shot)
    -Elf Bow
    -Sword
    -Elf Cloak

    Halfling Scout (+1 BS)
    -Bow
    -Dagger
    -Helmet

I rolled High enough to add one more to the flagellants, and I got "Return a Favor" so I get to pick a Hired Sword for free, I'm thinking a Road Warden, though my upkeep costs would start to get pretty high. Alternatively I could take the ogre and shove him down my opponents throat next game and then dismiss him if he doesn't die. Also not sure on my Captain's new skill, Eagle eyes is about the only other shooting skill that might be useful, and while he doesn't see combat much Step Aside would be nice for when he does, then again wyrdstone hunter or haggle offer some nice economic benefits.
