I juts got asked today if I wanted to join a BB league and after saying yes had 9 models dumped in my hands. There 9 Orc lineman? They look kinda old at any rate but look pretty much like the ones on the website (there blue plastic). Id like to get some stuff from the fantasy range as it could double as starting a new army for WHFB (grin!). My first question would be do they have to be on a 40k base or can I have square bases on them? Also i'll be starting on Monday, so what do I need to have a playible BB team (so I can learn the game)?

Bases don't matter in bloodbowl. In fact, the only game with a set base size for models is fantasy. 40k people just use the bases that come in the box, unless they want scenic bases, so I guess that's kind of standardized.
Well, you may want to read the online living rulebook. It's by no means a tough read, and skimming through can't hurt. You usually start with 1 million GCs to start with, and you have to have 1 fan factor. If you play in a league, rerolls double in price after the first game. Other than that orcs are listed in there.

I've played orcs as well, and just because it's my style, I'd take full blitzers and black orcs, but that's just me. And one thrower, so somebody can actually pick up the ball. After that, I choose either a reroll or two, or fill up on linemen.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, even if it's wrong.
You'll also need a bit more models, 9 isn't enough for a basic team, you really need a minimum of 11. Fotunately, unless you are playing in an official league, any figs will work. If you are interested in obtaining more figus, I have a nice selection available that I purchased off eBay.
