hay. I`m wondering if anyone here have played the norse team before?
Ive played norse before, there a nice solid team, and block is VERY powerful on the offence and deffence, and unlike Doge it can't be taking away. But just because they have block doesn't mean they won't get hurt, and with an AV of 7 your armour is going to get broken, so I find (just like with my elves) geting an apoth after your first game, or even upon list creation, is very important. Personally though I perfer Amazons, since everyone on your team can get Blodge (block and doge) which is very powerful.
Another thing about norse though worth mention is there Blitzers...they have the same stats as the rest of the norse team, but can take strength skills, good for getting mighty blow and guard, but most importantly they have Frenzy and jump up to start, and after having great success with dark elf witch elves, Norse blitzers are often a welcom edition to my team... very useful for an unsuspecting opponent and getting that gutter runner pushed into the crowd.
I'm using the Norse just now to represent my hard and heavy Kislevite team the Praag Polecats, and ahve been pretty cool. The big issue is of course the same as you would get with Amazons in that no player has more thab 6 for movement, so you really gotta go for it! if you're gonna score a touchdown. That being said, the block skill let's you get really rough with the opposition, and you'll get a few opposition players injured pretty quickly - on the downside with that is the AV of 7 which means if you're not careful, half of your own team'll be going home in a bodybag.
There in lies the rub - A pretty good team for leagues, not so much for one offs. If you are gonna play a league with them, listen to the Slayer and take an Apothecary, you're gonna need them, and grab about four re-rolls minimum, for those failed dodges that can have devastating effects on nutters with nothing but boxer shorts on...
Norse are a team that starts of great, but ends up dead after 10 games in a tournament. I disagree with you that Norse improve as they progress in relation to other teams you will be facing. This is why:
Norse's major advantage is that all your players start with block. This is truly awesome the first couple of games when none of the players on the opposing team has block. You will decimate your first opponent simply because you have the ability to knock over all the opponent's team. A 2 dice block from a player with block vs. a player without block has a 75% chance of knocking them over. That means that the opponent will only have 2-3 blocks next turn as he has to stand all his men up. Obviously you knock them straight back down again!
However the sunshine stops after 5 games when the opponent now has block on most of his team. Your strength has gone, and it becomes apparent that you don't have any armour! You realise that your team has no focus anymore, you previously bashed the opponent but now you are getting bashed by them as they have str 4 guys and their linemen have guard (which yours can't get without doubles). Basically you are screwed, and the only team you are more bashier than is Elves. So instead of bashing you try the passing game right? Wait a sec, you only have a ma 6 catcher? That's too slow for a goal scorer I'm afraid, it's the same speed as a Dwarf runner, and they get Thick Skull and Av 8.
It's 8 games into the league and it's raining very heavily now, your star blitzer and catcher have niggling injuries, and several of your linesmen have died. You had to retire several players as well due to stat decreases. And every game you have at least 1 player that picked a minor injury from last match and has missed this one. You barely can field 11 players and by the second half you are usually down to 7 with several KO, BH, SI, or worse dead. The only player that actually has any chance of casualty is your mino, but he is outnumbered fighting the oppositions big guy and retinue. He gets knocked over every turn by the opposition's big guy and if you are playing a good coach one of his linesmen fouls your mino. What? Av 8 reduced to Av4 from the foul. Oops, your minotaur's neck looks a bit crooked. I think he's dying.
Your team has died! Congratulations! Hey, it was fun the first 2 games tho.
EDIT: Hope you enjoyed my post by the way
