    Bloodbowl rocks

A mate of mine at our local gaming club has decided in his infinite wisdom that Bloodbowl is cool and is going to kick us all until everyone plays it. Within days of his merely mentioning the game there were over 10 people interested in joining a league and a cup knockout competition. I managed to get a team for £16 from ebay and bought a couple of add ons from GW direct.

The way the league works is everyone is allowed 3 pre season friendlies to get some money and star players points moving (and to make sure the teams are a little different at the start of the league) and then kick off.

I have played my 3 games and have absolutely loved them, even people watching other games have been shouting and cheering for touchdowns and players being killed. What I don't get is how Games Workshop can treat such a brilliant game as one of their specialist jobs and not really support it.

Yes, I had my first sampler game the other night at our new games club, and I must admit I am pretty much hooked. Its very well thought out, probably not too expensive in terms of models, and very characterful. What team(s) are you looking to get? I was quite taken with the Chaos Dwarves (with two Bull centaurs) that I was allocated for the trial game.

Ryan Dancey, Vice President of Wizards of the Coast, believed that TSR failed because of "...a near total inability to listen to its customers, hear what they were saying, and make changes to make those customers happy." Are you listening, Games Workshop ?

Well for me being a long time warhammer player I had to go with da boyz, mainly because if you cut me I bleed green :w00t: Orcs are quite cool for a team that can't run, can't throw and can't catch. Pretty good at stamping on things though.

The whole game seems to thrive on the loopier the plays you make and the more often you make go for it rolls always seeming to come off. I suppose there is no such thing as playing safe in bloodbowl.

If I were to look at another team it would have to be dark elves I think, they are pretty quick with good armour and high agility.

As far as purchasing teams it really isn't that bad, ebay has loads on there. If not a starting team box from GW's website costs £25.

    Blood Bwol is awesome!
I used to have two teams myself Dwarfs and Humans. I always wanted to go halflings though. Imangine your opponents face when you put out those useless little guys, then you bring out a bunch of treemen blockers! Blood bowl is a great game but i eventually quit because of a lack of players in my area. It's a really fun game to play but after a while your gold is just getting used to replace casualties.

    Good luck with your teams!

    GO HALFLINGS!

I may go for a gobbo team next, crazy little guys with bombs and chainsaws and loads of trolls.

The league we are starting has 2 conferences of 5, each plays each other twice with the top 2 from each conference going into the semis of the Bloodbowl.

One guy playing wood elves had a treeman and a lineman killed playing chaos in a pre season friendly, not the ideal start to a league.

If you want to really get into it full time. Look at my post on Bloodbowl Online. It's free and you can play pretty much anytime of the day.

I've spent many an hours online playing BB, when I couldn't dig up enough buddies for a good game at home.

I was going to have a look at the bloodbowl online but my PC at work is so old that I think it is gerbil powered.

The handy thing with it at the moment is the league is only just about to start and everyone is keen as beans so getting practice games is easy.

Well I have played my allowed pre-season friendlies and my opening league game is against Dwarves. Rather annoyingly I have never played against them and only seen one game involving them. Does anyone have any advice on how best to go about beating them up?

    My orc squad consists of:

    4 Blitzers
    3 Black orcs
5 Line orcs (2 of these have the skill block from SPP's)
    1 Thrower
    1 Goblin

Most of my scoring so far has come from the blitzers running down the wide area's of the field.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Funny you should say!

I used to play my dwarf team against my brothers orcs a fair bit. Try and have a good score against them. The dwarfs are too slow to really make any suprise moves. Hold a few linesmen back and just storm up one side. Thats what he did to me on numerous occasions. Dwarfs although slow are tough with a good set of armour. Watch out for him putting the troll slayers up against your black orcs as they have some quality advantages.

    Nice one taking a goblin!

I took the goblin originally as I wanted a cheerleader and the gobbo was 10,000 less than an orc lineman :w00t: As it turns out the goblin is pretty handy as he moves very fast and no one ever pays any attention to him (until he runs in and fouls you as he is my designated fouler ).

I think I will need to be aware that practically his whole team has block and the armour of a tank looks like running blitzers down the line is the way forward. I will post up after the game and let you know how it goes.
