Tau are my favourite vehicles in 40k after Eldar, they have such nice lines. Good choices, too Rabbit.

Ikterus you are a harsh critic I just wish that I could get my black to look like that. Although I do agree that the black was a strange choice of colour for the pilots of the second one, or maybe wrong as the colour for the interior, the crew just disappear. Still I wish that I could match their consistency over large areas.

Well... I wont say that I could have painted the dark areas even half as good as these artists have done, still I think that the black paint jobs were sub par in comparison to the skill they show in other areas.

Although I like the Tau vehicles less than the ones of other races I must say that GW has really accomplished a look that in comparison look completely alien and yet reasonable to exist in the same universe as the other races. It's hard to give all the races unique and yet somewhat realistic looks but GW has succeded.

I think that both of these make the the black look to flat. In the first photo it might be because of the photo quality, but in the second I think it's because of the paint job.

The contrast between the black interior and pilots and the brighter hull is not good... It looks like he gave the model a black undercoat and didn't bother to paint the pilots. My pick would have been to paint the pilots any other ceolour than black. If keeping to black he should have picked out some more details or made more distinct highlights.

In all other respects it's a very nice model.
The first one is actually very dark brown and blue. The image doesn't properly illustrate this. Here are a couple more:

As far as the second one goes, it was painted as part of a larger army (I believe featured in a WD. Someone will undoubtedly know more about this). The theme centers around a mixture of dark and light paint alongside tons of battle damage. In the ends the army it turns out looking very good. However, I can see where you're coming from with the minis inside the vehicle; it's as though they were only highlighted. Even a little more attention to the black shading would have done wonders. I don't mind it.

These I love. The damage is evident but, unlike the marines before, it's not too much; rather just enough. To me it looks as though they've been through a few battles but have lacked the time/facilities to repair them, so they keep on flying! I like.

I knew you'd like these. You're a sucker for good battle damage (me too).

The marines in yesterday's pics are more of an artist interpretation of battle damage, unlike these, which strive towards realism. Both look good, IMO, but I tend to like the realistic damage more as well.

That is a massive mold line on the engine.

Just look at the right engine. Close to the inner edge. On the other side there is another one that is slightly less eye-catching.

Does it run vertical? If I'm seeing it correctly, it merely looks like a facet of the engine thruster.
