So, I have now done all the conversion work and the painting has begun. Thanks to my new paintbrushes (which I will treat good, I promise you oh, Deity of such things) it's been quite a joy this my first evening of painting. I'd also like to thank Pestigor for keeping me company on the emergency-chat ( Thanks Pest ) and those who've kept me working on it in while still in the conversion phase. (you know who you are, right? ) *cries in Hollywood fashion* Sorry for the melodrama... Anyway, I decided to try something new so I went back to what ever little I managed to learn during my art classes and based my little behemot...green. But first, for those of you who have not seen the DP in it's "original"shape, here's a little pic of him. ![]() There has been some minor details added since this pic of course (teeth to mention some) but as I had to remove some parts in order to paint him I thought I'd show you what you are to be looking at...yeah, as if that made any sense. Anyway, here comes the first layer of green on a black base. ![]() On the areas where his skin is thinner I chose to use a purple base, I'm not really sure why, but I thought it might work well in combination with the green to create the diseased colour I am working for. ![]() Yuck, how crude a paint job I can hear some of you think (no, not really, but I can imagine ) but stay with me, this will all be covered in time. The next thing I did was to give him a thorough drybrush, Bleached Bone on what will in time be skin toned and Regal Blue on what will be...snailblack? ![]() After this it was time to bring out the details a bit, so I gave him a Scab Red wash. I've found this combo (BB-DB and SR-wash) to be very effective in creating a living feeling to skinned areas and to make the details more easily recognisable, or noticable... oh languages. ![]() But it looks like crap! Yes indeed, but please stay with me. And for all of you who think of yourself as no good painters, please notice how sloppy I've been. There has been nothing even remotely close to precision yet. Just chuck it all on. Make sure your drybrush is dry and that your wash is wet. Piece of cake. The next step was to define the skin tone a bit more. I don't want it to look all healthy and blossomy, so I chose to start with a thin layer of Graveyard Earth on the raised areas. ![]() More paint on the more raised areas and less on the less raised. If you keep your paint wet, this should not be a problem either. I then mixed the Graveyard Earth with Dwarf Flesh and kept building it onto the raised areas. The higher the area, the more DF. ![]() (I now noticed I didn't put the Regal Blue DB on until here, but it really doesn't matter...) Then I added some Elf Flesh to the mix. Oh, and to make a mix like this last for a while and still be paint-able, not to clog up or dry away, I've used some Blending Medium. Nothing fancy, it just keeps the paints wet even after they've ended up on the palette under the strong light from all my lamps ![]() So, some more highlighting, as I said, with Elf Flesh added: ![]() Then the last thing I did tonight (not counting this thread of course) was to add some Bleached Bone details. Some areas (such as the maggots) were given a highlight with Skull White /BB too. Just to make them stand out a bit more. ![]() So...that's really it for now. Any questions or Constructive Criticism are mighty welcome. General Criticism is also OK I guess... But for now...good night.

That looks freaking awesome although i would be mighty interested in how you would manage to blend the black of lower part of the body to the top half or are you just going to go for a full over bleached bone + elf flesh colour? Peace WNW

Eeeeeeeew. That's gross... Though I'm impressed at how much a lick of paint brings those maggots out. Tres jolie. As the french might say. Or, I suppose, they might not. They are a fickle people, the french. -t.

Thanks guys ![]() It's a very good question your asking Ninja, it's something I've asked myself many times during the conversion-phase. At the moment I'm leaning toward making the transition in kind of patches, like if the two halves are fighting over the control. I'll use purple base for some bruises, on the skin part, that will go all the way to black in the middle. They'll be focused around the wounds on the belly. Then I'll make a soft transition on the front of the slug-body (what we call the "lip" in Swedish. There it'll be a few layers of Gray/light browns and bleached bone to simulate the ..."snail-muscles". But most of this will anyhow be focused around the area of the wounds and I hope they'll distract any viewers a bit too. On the backside there'll be a backpack to cover most, but there is also a naked spine around which I'll add some good old painful looking flayification, and there's also an intestialchord to further distract.

I'm in awe. Fine work as always. Now, to offer just a tincy bit of criticism: The maggots are a little too white. You might want to give them a once over with a complimentary wash; perhaps even an extra diluted wash. They don't need much.

Vackert! Thank you very much for this step-by-step. As I've told you I consider myself a sloppy painter and must say that I'm pleasantly surprised to find out that you are too! ![]() Now I see that many somewhat sloppy layers really can bring out great results. I think the best lession for me is that you should do the washes early in the process and not apply it as the last step (which I have been known to do). We'll see, but I think I will become a better painter thanks to this tutorial!

Cheers mates, I'm really glad if you are able to improve from this Ikterius, it'd really be an honour. And Rabbit, no worries on them maggots, they will be getting both some spacewolf gray paint and a bloodred wash as they'll pour out from the wounds and those I haven't even started on yet. I painted them mainly to see if there are any places that needs more of the thicker maggots, and the ones at the bottom in the middle will be getting some new friends as they are a bit flat at the moment. It's great to hear though, as there always are things one misses when modelling and painting your advice and critisism really helps a ton. Tonight I'll get working on them wounds and intestials maybe even the mechparts. As you can see he is now missing his fingers, this is due to a freakaccident last night. I dropped him, but managed to catch him midair, without really getting a hold of him. So I sat juggling with him for like two seconds. Very tensed seconds I tell you. But it was really quite good that they fell off as I now have much easier to paint the rest of the claw.
