Hi everybody I got questions about paint and about purity seals (you mightve guessed). When I was younger my brother bought a citadel paint starter set that comes with 9 different paints. I think the paints are about 6 years old and they havent been used much (theyre still liquidy, not dry) and now since Im starting warhammer, instead of buying new ones I was wondering if this paint is useable? So I was out buying paints (different colors) yesterday and I decided to buy a can of Games Workshop purity seal (Satin Varnish) spray. And I was looking at the instructions on the cans lid and it says: "When dry the surface will readily accept citadel colour acrylic paints and washes." I thought the purity seal was for the models after they have been painted to help protect the paint job. So is the instructions label wrong and it supposed to be used for the models after they have been painted or is it for the models before you paint them? Is the purity seal necessary, it seems like a good thing? What do you guys think? Is there anything I should know about using a purity seal or advice about things not to do? Thanks Superbock

Varnish can be applied at any point during the painting process. But, yes, it is mostly applied once the mini has been completed so as to prevent the paint from rubbing of due to gameplay. When painting vehicles and such very often modellers will apply a varnish or sealant once all the "normal" painting has been done and before weathering is about to commence. This preserves the underlying work. And that is probably what Citadel are referring to. It's just a statement telling modellers know that they can continue painting once the varnish has been applied. So don't read too much into that statement ![]() HTH Tarok :C |

the old paints seem to last wayyy longer than the newer ones, or perhaps its just the cans? as far as i know, these are the different cans used by gw over the years: ![]() Mk1-4 I still use paints from the first Mk, and they must be over a decade old by now but still work great, I wouldnt worry about that. |

Just to be pedantic but the oldest paint pots I remember were cylinders that tapered towards the top they were replaced by the true cylinders your MK1s some time in the early nineties. More importantly I think I discovered all my paints had dried up and become useless after about five years of sitting unused in a draw. |
