Default Mixing Orange

Hello all

My mind is wandering as an excuse not to do work...

I need to work out a darker shade of orange - I use the Vallejo equivalent of Blazing Orange (can't remember the name off the top of my head) as a mid colour - and I've read some pieces on not using black and white to darken or lighten shades...but other similar colours - so i guess my question is, what do you think about mixing a brown colour in with an orange to darken it a shade or two??

I know the best way to find out is experimentation, but i'm in work and thinking haha...

If no one knows then I'll try it later and report back...

Also, if anyone has any resources relating to the above topic, i'd be very grateful!!

Thanks in advance!

Id suggest mixing it with a light red and to lighten the colour Id suggest a yellow.

Oooo red didn't think of that, which is stupid really being as you mix that and yellow to get orange, duh...haha

That actually makes perfect sense lol

Cheers

Not sure what Tau having nipples has to do with mixing orange?? haha

I've got a DIY Marine chapter...just the right greave, chest eagle and right shoulder pad are orange...

Adding red would give a very bright orange overall, for a more subdued colour I'ld recomend brown.

Another method that should work would involve using a color wheel. Use a color opposite of orange to mix in. That would give you a darker shade and might even end up more interesting... Darker brown would work as well. As Walex stated - brown will give you a more muted burnt orange color...

Cheers,

-Mike

Hmmm interesting thoughts...

I'm looking for something darker and burnt i guess for the recesses - ah well experimentation is the key - I shall do that then post back! Thanks for all the input!
