OK im starting to get sick of this but i cant find a good color combination that makes a nice rust effect and by nice i mean horribly disgusting. ive tried vomit brown bubonic brown scorched brown with blood red and red gore. soon im gonna try to get the texture right by glueing very fine sand to the metal to give it a coroded effect before i paint it. Has any one else had much success with painting rust?

Well, for a nurgle warrior I used Flesh Wash over strong drybrushed Boltgun Metal (and with a fine knife I made some dents/scratches on the armor plates to have some corner points for the wash to seep in) It came out very nice, even some parts where the wash spread a bit uneven, it just gave the impression that some areas were more rusted than others. Other brownish inks should also do fine. A small pic of the mentioned warrior:

a mix of black/brown ink over Boltgun metal highlighted with mithril and chainmail. Then put some chestnut ink where rust would likely form. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/IMG_0058.jpg

vermin brown stippled with watered down redgore+blazing orange and watered blazing orange lightly stippled on top.. looks tasty when youre doing damaged glossy armor, and the rust is matte. add a highlight on "newly worn" rust-surfaces with whatever metallic you want to be under the rust, peeking out. if youre considering using sand to make it bubbly, it will look more convincing if you do the area of the armor's color closest to the rust bubbly, not the rust itself. as if the armor-paint is being peeled off by the rust. ![]() 2 cents

This is what I use for all my rust: 1. basecoat black 2. boltgun metal 3. tin bitz brushed on 4. scorched brown drybrushed over 5. dark flesh dabbed on top of scorched brown 6. Macharius Orange (or another not-too-bright orange) dabbed on top of dark flesh 7. wash with Devlan Mud or other dark brown wash 8. lightly dab orange again
