As we all know, GW has discontinued their inks with the new washes. The washes are great, but Black Ink has played an integral role in my paint arsenal, because when watered down it is excellent for throwing on top of the basecoats of 50+ guardsmen to provide instant shading, etc.

I know Badab Black is much better at shading (at least I think so), but my problem is that Badab Black is really thin. I'd need to apply 3+ coats to get the same effect as my old Black Ink wash, and then I'd be going through a 12ml bottle each week... one wonders if GW designed the washes this way...

So, does anyone have any economic suggestions for other brands of inks/washes that go on a bit thicker and darker than Badab Black?

I know that Reaper makes a black ink that you need to water down to use, but it's in the screw top kind, Which I heard they were discontinuing. You can still buy some, but I'm pretty sure you can't off of reapers' website.

Go to Neal's Warstore and look for Didi's Magic Sauce. It used to be Kel's Magic Sauce but he quit making it and sold it to Didi, Neal's wife. I use it all the time, no need to water, doesn't puddle or leave rings. It's great stuff. And you get a big bottle of it. It's lasted me ages.

Vallejo is still making their inks that are more or less interchangeable with GW. I'll also toss in another vote for the Magic Sauce.
