Ice / Snow effects on Miniatures.

I have decided i want to make a ice / snow themed chapter of warhammer 40k Space Marines.
I was curious if anyone had any hints/tips or links as to how i can go about generating an icey or snowy effect on their armor andalso how to make decent looking icicles (was thinking of trying to make a power sword look like crystal or something to that effect!).Any help would be most appreciated Thanks!!!

A few thoughts spring to mind on this one. Hopefully some of them might be helpful.

Take a look at Snow Camoflage from WWII onwards both infantry uniforms and also tank patterns too. There is the obvious all white, but there are some other patterns too. One that springs to mind I've seen on a few vehicles from teh German side were white and grey disruptive pattern that would look great on marine armour.

Re: the power sword. I'd be tempted to see if there is any clear plastics/resins that you could make them from.

I can't find the info right now but there is a way to make snow look like it's sticking the armor of tanks. Maybe take flock and glue a little to the tanks. Then paint the flock gloss white.

I've seen quite good snow effects on vehicles done by using a sponge to dab the paint on. It works quite well with a contrasting colour behind it, not so sure if you're going to have a snowy colour scheme anyway.

As for the swords, rather than actually sticking on a clear replacement you could start with a lightish blue (Ice Blue, although that may be too light) and highlight all the way to white at the edges of the blade. That should give you a good icy feel to the weapons. A note of caution; that may not sit well with the rest of the colour scheme, it might be better to have more of a contrast between weapons and armour.
