How to Paint Age worn armor for Eldar & Dark Eldar?

Recently I being thinking about how I might paint my 'mish mash' army of old an new Dark eldar miniatures.

I decided that I want the old 3rd edition miniatures to look as if their armor is ancient.
I have no idea how to get this type effect, particularly since Eldar armor is bone-like (wraithbone) not metallic.

Anyone got some advice how to create this effect?

The armour may not be metal but it will be painted so you can try paint chips using sponge or apply washes or forgeworld weathering pigments to dull down the armour and applly wear and tear.
