So I was listening to a podcast called The Deployment Zone and they talked about this very issue. The Deployment Zone » Episode 13: The Ultimate Showdown

One of the hosts said the fuzz is caused by the paint particles partially drying before they hit the model. Essentially I was spraying too far away from my model. I was spraying from about 12 in away. The can gave no directions about distance.

The hosts on the show rattled off the following spray distances by primer brand.

    Armory - approx 8in away
Army Painter - approx 8in away
    Citadel - approx 12in away
    Krylon - approx 15-16in away
    Rustoleum - approx 15-16in away

They also mentioned that the propellent in some spray cans will etch the plastic if sprayed too close to a model. I'm gonna test the theory this weekend.

    Thanks for the advice!

A reminder though i am pretty sure you do it anyway. Before spraying shake the damn thing for a couple of minutes.

If i were a nugrle player though i would attempt to replicate the whole fuss.

you may have oversprayed it. that happened to my space wolves a while back. when the paint is wet, it looks like you have not covered a certain area.

alternatively, your spray can may be too cold. leave it in a bucket of water (not submerged) for a while untill its room temperature, then shake the living hell outta it

As a final update... I tried out the same can of primer but this time at the closer distance (approx 8in). It worked good. Apparently I was spraying from too far away. Moving closer solved the problem. Thanks again for all the tips.

Yup, that happened to me when I was priming my Kroot, I done it outside in the winter* (about 10 degrees) and all along one side of each model the 'fuzz' happened. Rather than just strip them (I spent weeks converting them with green stuff) I just went on to painting them as normal, let me just say that they were the worst quality models I've done and painted. Absolute nightmare...
