    Paint the nightsky

I had an idea earlier but now I am alittle stumped on execution. I want to paint a star filled nightsky on the skin on a unit of chaos hounds. My current Idea is to paint the skin a solid Black before adding a few white, yellow, red maybe green dots for stars, planets, etc. Then adding a couple of layers of Darkenhof Nightshade (dark blue wash) and a couple of layers of Guilliman Blue (blue Glaze) to get the right effect.

So ideas, images of simillar work, comments on my idea? I have never done anything like this so anything is wellcome.

My recommendation would be to avoid black like the plague. Start off with a very dark blue and only highlight it slightly. For the stars use a more muted colour like shadow grey and then slightly highlight inside it with space wolf grey. Finally a dot of white inside it to give it a glow. Keep your stars simple such as a + shape and maybe one or two with a smaller x over them. Importantly though don't put in too many stars.

    Hope this helps

If you really must have any tinted stars then very very sparingly do so. Otherwise it will just look multicoloured. If you do tiny them then do as above and then pick them out with a glaze of coloured wash and then put another white highlight in. Have fun!

I agree that having tinted stars could make it look like you have sprinkle coated hounds instead of stars. I would base it a very dark blue and work it up only a couple shades on the highlighting. Avoid washes because they will mute your stars to much in my opinion.
