Well as I have completed the Silver Helms I move onto the Swordmasters, the problem is I'm unsure of what colours to use. I want them to fit into the army but also stand out (sounds odd I know), so I've been thinking of colour schemes. I have 5 practice models but two are now done, these are the schemes I had so far - - GW style, but replace blue with red Have done one this way, looks ok but not really much to look at - Golden armour, red trim & plume, helm and upper toros silver Again this one is done, nice looking and stands out. But I think it's quite common - The both two but with red showing between the scales. I don't think I'll attempt this unless I have spare models, I can image what they'd look like with red showing - Ivory scale armour, red trims & plume, upper body - Ivory or metal? This is one I will try but I have no idea how the ivory would look but I'd say they'll stand out So those are my current ideas, but I'm stumped for any others. So do you all have any ideas? The scheme must include red (Blood red mainly, but darker's ok) and white (or a light grey/cream) . So any ideas you can give me would be a great help, but don't expect me to be blending or such as like as I'm not that skilled in my painting. Oh and incidently anyone got any ideas how to get a decent looking ivory colour? I was thinking Bleached Bone and Skull White, but will need to test it. (And please GW colours only, I live in the UK and can't get those others unless mail ordered. And I don't want to wait weeks for a couple pots of paint.) Thanks muchly KU

Sorry I know double post, but I need comments. Well here's some pics of my first three test "subjects", first off we have... The GW scheme, this lovely type is the same as the GW version but with the blue exchanged for red. Front Rear Side Next up is the second test, the golden scaled armour. This one is a variation of the above test but the scales on his arms and about his legs is coloured gold. Front Rear And the last one is the hardest of them all, a bone/ivory colour. Now I don't know if I suceeded in getting the armour right, but I think it turned out well. Though the cloth may just have been too much. Front Rear Side KU

if u think abut it, gold is actually a very soft metal so would make bad armour

It's a soft metal, also it's quite heavy to use as armor. KU : Go for the ivory armor.

Ivory will look good if you get can get a deep shade between the scales. I'm looking at the detail on a SwM champion I painted ages ago and I think the gaps are deep enough that you could get as dark as bestial brown between the scales. Why do I say this? Two reasons. Firstly tasteless people (of which there are unfortunately many) will look at it and say "whats wrong with his armour, couldn't you paint it properly or something?" if you don't make it blatantly obvious what you are doing. Secondly, one word: Wraithbone. It really does smack of cross genre proliferation - the dark shading will make it obvious that wraithbone is not what you had in mind. Finally as a general observation, Do HEs still wear Ithilmar armour? I thought that was a silvery blue colour? To my shame I used to be sooo into HEs that I knew everything but I have lapsed in the past few years.. Nice paintjobs by the way Ulrik, very smart. I agree with the red robes being a little too strong though on the last one though. |

I got the feeling the cloth was too bright when I started to highlight it, I think I should have stopped at red gore or scab red. Quote:
