this is my first painting in nearly 10 years (since 2nd edition when i was 11&#33...for the most part the flash washed out the red, its not nearly that bright or flat, the darker picture at the end is more true, i'm going to try to rig up a light box to take more accurate pictures. Once i do that you'll be able to see the shading from the ink.

The color is a base of crimson gore on white spray primer with a coat of red ink along with chainmail trim.

The whole squad, and yes that is a space marine missle arm (from 2nd ed) on a new csm body

the champ, not real happy with how his horns turned out, might redo them

i like how this guy ended up, his base came together well and i like how i modeled him

probably my favorite, the fade on the plasma gun turned out much better than i expected it would

This is the one that is a litrle more accurate to the red

lastly, my forgeworld dreadnaught...as soon as i get the rest of the bezerker sqd done, i'll move to him, cant wait...i really like how he turned out, the positioning and the skulls give it an 'in motion' look that works well imo

    comments?

edit**they have green eyes which didnt show up that well in the pics

Not bad at all for your first models in 10 years! But there are a few really quick changes that you can make that will improve the look of your models. In increase the depth of your reds easily, mix up a wash of scab red and black ink and apply it over the red. Allow it to run into the cracks and it will bring out the deffinition as well as darkening it a bit(without making it appear crimson). I also would recommend putting a wash of black/green/brown ink on the metal parts. It will increase depth and also give it a worn, slightly rusty look. Overall good solid paintjobs, and have fun with your Dreadnought!

ya, i'll post more pics after i get the light box made, its actually a really deep almost cinnimon red, but i'll try the black ink on the dreadnaught. The metal parts idea is great! i was trying to figure out some way to add depth to them, thanks!

Kudo's on the clean paintjob. After a bit more pratice (ie painting several more of them) you should do fine with shading and highlights!

The fade transition on the plasma gun does look nice. It would be interesting to hear you talk about how it was done.

    Keep up the good work.

    Cheers,

    -Mike

oh ya, i guess i could say about that, lol...it was real easy and took about 5 minutes to do. i used regal blue, UM blue, and lightning blue...i did it in stripes, by that i mean i painted the back 3rd regal blue then the middle 3rd UM and finnaly the last bit lightning. So now the gun was not shaded at all, just 3 stripes. I had a small bit of each paint on a plate and i used the lighter color of each section. By that i mean, for the regal to UM i put a little UM on the line where the 2 colors met on the gun. Then i got the brush wet and lightly went back and forth over it until it shaded the way i wanted. Then i did the same thing with the lightning blue, put some where the 2 colors met and blended the same way. Real quick and easy.

Ya i am pretty lucky, the shop where i live stock FW stuff and sells it for cost he ends up not making any money off the models. I think in total the drednought cost me $60 US

The guns look effective. This technique is very similar to wet blending and I think you pulled it off convincingly. Great job!

thanks man! after seeing your work on typhus i must say i am quite honored to have someone of your skill giving me compliments. The Champions horns didnt turn out nearly as well but i did them first and didnt try anything systematic like i did with the plasma gun, i think i'll go back over them the same way as the gun then drybrush a light color to highlight the ridges.
