I attempted last night to do a job of quartering one of my marines, Left leg black, Left upper torso Red, Right leg Red, Right upper torso black, and it came out looking kind of cruddy, and I know that it'll get better over time, but I want to know if there are any tips that anyone has for painting this way.

BTW, before I get into trouble for this, I did several searches and couldn't find anything, which is why I posted a new topic

well my reply to this would simply be tape! put a lien of tape over the part you dont want any paint on then you can make all the mistakes and have a perfectly straight line

But would the tape pull off the underlying layer??

You have to use the right kind of tape I guess... I hear masking tape can pull the paint off, so be careful with that. Otherwise I don't think theres any other way other than having a very, very steady hand.

A friend of mine had to do a similair thing too. I would suggest getting painters tape and spray paint matching with the appropriate colour. Just have a light spray or two of choas black. Then put the tape over the areas you want to stay black (when everything is dry!) followed by a spray of red on the other side. Simple, fast, and you can do entire squads at once. If you're the kind of guy who likes perfection you can do easy touch ups with a detail brush too.
