Anyone know if there are any alternative brands or types of paints that are exactly like or otherwise just as functional as citadel paints but are CHEAPER? One single container of paint costs $3.50 at my store. =( And I sure as hell ain't gonna be shelling that out for that small amount of paint. Any ideas? Timbo |

In Sweden we have this alternative brand called Nitro, Its actually the old citadel paint manufacturers (that made the paint to the old paintsets, space marine, monster, metalic and so on) the paints are 10-20% cheaper, the colours are the exact same as in the new painline and the cans are the good old ones that makes allt he fine memories come back. Dont know if this brand is able to get outside Sweden. I would recomend it (i used it alot when GW could only offer the last cans.. (someone should get sacked for those cans) Dont drink Purple wash.. |

Try to get Vallejo paints. These are clearly superior to GW paints concerning the quality, and they're also cheaper: You get a small bottle with 17oz (i'm not sure about "oz", but it's supposed to be the same unit that GW paints use) for 2€/$ compared to 3€/$ for 12oz of GW paints. All vallejo paint bottles also have a "eye-dropper opening", so they don't dry out as quickly as GW paints and you can use that dropper to create an identical mixtures of paints after you have used up the original mixture. jwu |

Vallejo Paints come in a nice colour range for your every need. They can be bought online from a range of onlinestores, just search for "Vallejo Paints" on google. This message is not sponsored by Vallejo Paints. |

Also though, some craft paints work wonderful well from local hobby stores, such as Hobby Lobby. I tend to buy most of my paints from hobby lobby and i only buy metallics and some inks from GW. Which store do you go to Timbo? Dragon's Lair? or one i dont know about? Cause they sell Metaillics cheaper at Thor's Hammer than they do at Dragon's Lair.

I also go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels. You can get several brands of acrylics at each store. They have more colors, even Ultramarines blue. And a container that is about 4 times as large as the Citadel container is $.99. I actually like these paints better than the Citadel stuff, as they don't seem to dry out as fast when you have the container open for long periods.

It depends on colors. If its a certain color or ink that nobody but GW has, get it at GW. But, always...ALWAYS look in a local craft or hobby store for paints before going to GW. Cheaper, bigger and equal to better quality. I get all my paints from craft stores except my blue ink(for the GKs).

I got to Wal-Mart for my paints, $.87 a bottle for at least twice as much..... sometimes it doesn't coat as well as Citadel paints, but for the price a little extra work is worth it. Also I try to get flat spray primer (NEVER Citadel primer it's about 8 times as expensive and lasts half as long) in the Main color I'll be using for the particular army at the time, as this helps save time AND money.

for the price to buy paints and brushes i could buy two blisters so it seems as if GW discourages painting and more model buying because you can either have more models and points or you can have a painted army.
