Hey all, I just finished the first in my new DH army. He's a GK with Incinerator, and was a color test of my new color scheme. I am really happy with him, and can't wait to get cracking on the rest of my army! Grey Knight with Incinerator Please leave comments and (constructive) criticism. Thanks!

Wow! Mr. Freaky, I do believe your skills have gotten even better. An army of these Grey Knights will be a sight to behold, indeed. Keep up the great work and keep the pictures coming, my friend! Last edited by Undeadair; February 21st, 2006 at 08:38.. |

Thanks, Undeadair, and welcome back! Some have mentioned the highlighting of the armor. I chose the "edging" style I did because in my view the armor is not a reflective surface, but rather flat. The areas of wear on the armor plates would be the edges of the armor (joints, etc.) and not determined by light relections. Thus, no NMM or "reflective" light patterns as one would see wit, say, gemstones. Thanks for the criticism and keep it coming!

First off I just wanted to say this is a sharp looking figure. You have done an excellent job of defining the different parts of the figure. I like the overall darker grey tone of this figure moreso than your previous test model. I really like the look of this model and you should end up with a stellar looking unit/army when done. As for a list of things to do if you had more time. This is what I would suggest: The gold lettering on the weapon casing looks like it runs together. This could be the angle but if not I would suggest a brown or purple ink to better define the letters and separate them from the background. I would take the highlights up a notch on the red of the purity seals and Inquisitor symbols. I would subdue the silver on the weapon. This could be done by starting with a darker metallic and/or glazing with inks. Different color inks will give you a different feel. Vallejo Smoke works very well for this. Cheers, -Mike

Great looking mini...just wondering what colour you used to paint the armour (i might redo my daemonhunters - since they were done 2 years ago - much better painter now )?...Im guessing base coat of codex grey and fortress grey highlights - tell me what colours as i might 'copy' you ? But i recon the armour could have been highlighted more, mix the highlighting(fortress grey?) colour with some white and highlight the corner edges of the armour....But superb work

You guessed correctly. Black primer, codex grey base, inked with thinned black ink, then highlighted with codex through to fortress grey. I initially experimented with the white extreme highlights, but ultimately decided against it because it would be too bright. I wanted the armor to look aged and ancient, like relics, and more "grim and gritty". The white seemed to stand out too much, even sparsely used. Thanks for the coments and keep 'em coming!

Looking great, love your colorscheme. I would take the red highlights to a little higher level and maybe do a little bit brighter hihlight on the golden/brass runes. |

I know I've already put in my 2 cents, but I have some questions! Ok RJ, how long did this model take you, and when can we expect more pictures? Is this an entirely new army you've started or are you just taking a break from your SMs? Inquiring minds want to know and BTW, my girlfriend approves of your knights! Again, great job. |
