Ink is a way of darkening colours, usually it is painted on and it runs into the cracks and deeper parts of the model - giving it shading. Though it can be added to normal paint to enrich the shade and deepness of the colour. But washing.. An ink wash is basically watered down ink. How do you do this? Simple, add water to the ink. Place some ink on your pallete and then add a few drops of wate, this will make the ink thinner. Often the thinner the better but it depends upon the model/section in question - you decide. Then get some on your brush, don't load it full as this can lead to too much ink on the model and then apply it to the model. It should flow into the cracks, creavaces and such giving shading. The more water you add the thinner the ink and the more layers needed to make it look like it's there. KU

See...now I'M confused...I thought you guys just called watered down paint "ink". Do you mean transparant paints such as high quality water colors?? Or actual INK, like in a pen? Can we get a weblink or two? Quote:

Skin colour, the best ink to use if flesh wash but I have had some success with extreemly watered brown ink and even chestnut. Desert yellow, flesh ink works here too IMO. If you meant actual paints; flesh I'd go for dwarf flesh with elf highlights and for desert yellow - well, desert yellow. KU

Windsor and newton make some very nice inks. I have also found interesting uses for Dr. PH Martin watercolor inks. They come in a handy eye dropper bottle. The downside to the water color inks - is they tend to re-activate when new paint is applied over them. Sealing them with varnish before proceeding with your paintjob works well though. I have also heard decent things about FW. Most of your other ink options should be available at a craft store or art supply store. Cheers, -Mike
