Rep Power: 47 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I know for paint I should get Vallejo (sp?) and other brushes but how much are these price wise compared to their citadel equivalents? I am not a very good painter and don't spend a huge amount of time per model but I still want them to look good. Is it worth investing more on these paints/brushes, or for the average painter are they not worth it?

i have always found citadel paints adequate- although vallejo are meant to be pretty good. GW brushes are rubbish when compared to other kolinsky sable brushes by other manufacturers. Even the cirrus windsor and newton brushes, which are of a similar price to GW ones, will keep their points for far far longer than GW ones- you can get them from most good art shops and i heartily reccomend them

Citadel paints aren't the best but it doesn't mean they aren't worth using.

the paints are pretty good, they just dry fast. As for brushes, I am fine witht the normal citadel brushes, they dont bother me. Some brushes from other places do the trick, I have a tank brush from another company, so it really depends and generally does not matter much.

What I want is a stiffer fine detail brush (well, stiffer brushes in general)? I've heard the Windor and Newton Type (?) 7 are suppsed to be good for stiff fine detail brushes. Any ideas?

Windsor & Newton are the supposedly some of the brushes you can buy. I've got a mix of Floquil Pure Sable and some other random stuff. I have one Citadel brush, large dry brush, (my pursuit for the perfect drybrush continues...=P) which I've decided is okay for doing bases, but other than that, it's poopy. I won't be buying any more GW brushes unless I'm desperate (painting at a GW, etc. and need something). I've got a mix of Tamiya, GW and Vallejo. I like the GW bottles - the lid is cool to use to dip pure color out of, but I'm pretty easy going. As long as my paint isn't the consistancy of yogurt, I can make it work. =) Although, I think the GW paints really stinks. =P Tamiya smells nicer to me for some reason. |

I don't find they smell great, but I don't hate the smell so I don't really mind. Just stay in a well ventilated area and you're fine ![]() So, DEFINITELY better brushes but GW paints, yeah? What makes Drybrushing brushes so special? Is it worth just getting a cheapish brush for this due to brushes being messed up my drybrushing?
