Default Failed entry for LO Painting Comp. (Pics)

This is a converted slayer doom seeker.

I was a slayer with a spiked ball on a chain. I cut the ball off and repositioned the chain and added an axe head, the other hand was empty so I added a flail from the Chaos sprue and switched th end for anothe axe.

I shaved this dudes head because I thought he looked a little too eighties mullet for me. (Shaving metal isn't easy, beware of stabbing yourself kiddies!)

I tried to gs some shoulders in, but they didn't work too well.

The paint is a needs a little refinement to be sure, I'm working on it.

It didn't get one vote for the afore mentioned comp, what could I do to make my next two converted doom seekers better. Tattoos? or do you think that would be too ambitious for me? How do you paint good tattoos?

There you are, one butt nekkid, double-axe wielding, whirling maniac.

I think your painting is good but not really eye catching. Also I don't think your picture angles are really helping as far as presenting your model. I would look to capture the entire figure in one picture. Find the angle that best displays the figure and make it fit within the camera display.

Things that might bring more attention to this figure could be adding tattoos, making the beard more vibrant and attention grabbing (nearly flourescent orange eh). Maybe adding a trophy or other point of interest on the base.

I don't think this figure itself is very noteworthy for a competion either. He is rather plain. Usually you want to pick a figure that will showcase your work. For instance if you look at most demon entries (there are always exceptions to the rule) you will find an abundance of little details to catch your eye.

Above all else don't be discouraged. Keep trying and entering even if you don't get a single vote. Hopefully you will get an abundance of feedback and learn each time you enter. Another key thing to look at is what did the winning models (or the ones with the votes) do to catch your attention. Emulation can lead to improvement.

Cheers,

-Mike

Quick summary:

More interesting base.

More Vibrant Beard.

Tattoos/Freehand.

Better photos - I'm working on it!

More little details.

Thanks Slorak.

And not necessarily for competitions, I just want a nice looking army.
Anybody else got anything?

For a nice looking army you are definitely on the right track. The way you made the post suggested you were talking about competition painting. The figure as it stands is above table top quality in my opinion. Anything extra would be icing on the cake. Now if there is not time limit and you want to go all out for every single piece - more power to you!

Cheers,

-Mike

Well, I want a nice army, but I wouldn't mind competition winners too!

So any and all advice is heartily recieved. If I can make my tabletop standard better, then, hopefully, my competition standard will be raised too.

Thanks.

I'm gonna have to say, adding tattoos and woads would be a must to make him look less bland. I don't want to use the word, but, really, he is wonderfully painted but, as mentioned before, rather plain. Using streaks of orange in his beard and putting on bright tattoos will make him look much better, in my opinion.

Use bright colours because they are eye catching and break the plainness of the hide. The onlt thing you can see now are hide, beard and weapons.

The painting is like said before good and with some more details you will get more votes.
