Okay I usually play DOWC now and as the IG online I have some trouble on understanding what is a good strategy for them. I usually start of building three guardsmen squads and two more tech priests while the pre made techpriest build up my power supply. Then with my Guardsmen squads I take them to capture points where my other tech priest builds outposts on them while the other techpriest build generators. Is this a bad way to start because I had a guy today calling me a noob because I had four generators and only one Guardsmen squad. I used to have more IG squads but because he asked me to protect him against two Tau armies I just gave them more kroot meat.
You have to remember, Guardsmen are the backbone of the Imperial Gaurd. Without them, your vehicles, your command squad, your individual leaders have no support / nothing to support them.
I'm not saying mass guardsmen and only guardsmen, by all means, make what you want. But you should have a good solid amount to support whatever you're building.
ill reply to more questions if you have them.
Yeah i have to agree that spamming gaurdsmen (to a certain extent) is usually the only way to do well with IG, they just arnt strong enough to defend you while you tech up if you only have a few units. Kasrkin squads are pretty dam good when you get them, but guardsmen are your priority. Also i usually dont send my command squad into melee unless i need to tie a strong ranged unit, usually i use uncommon valour and get 4 psykers (check spelling) as lightning bolt is pretty godly. (ps. Grenade launchers are very good in large numbers)
