I wanna upgrade my old,old PC so i can play UT2004, half life 2 when it comes out, halo and stuff like that. It has an 800mhz athlon, a lame nvidia graphics card, 13GB hard drive, a screen, a DVD Drive(Quite a slow one) and some stuff( sound card and all that). Also i wanna get broadband so i can do online gaming with my friends and that but don't know which deal is best. i checked and i can definitly get ADSL where i live. Finally, i was wondering if wireless LAN is any good, coz it would mean i wouldnt hav to get broaDBAND or sommat.
Sorry, but what language are you using because I need someone to translate some parts of that.
Also, for the upgrade parts, you don't need anything really special as long as it has about 1.5GHz, 512 ram and a geforce 4 mx. For harddrive and broadband, you wont need more than 0.5-1MBit to play multiplayer games. No need for a larger drive than 40GB, unless you got alot of family photos.
for UT2k4 you'll want something better than a GF4mx, my gf4ti4200 chugs a bit
i'd recomend a 2.5gig processor, 512mb of fast expensive ram (i've learned my lesson, NEVER buy cheap ram), 80gb HD minium (broadband will much your HD space). as far as a graphics card goes i'd say something like a radeon 9800 should be pretty future proof
wireless lan is only worth it if you're putting a lot of computers on the network, if wiring isn't practical or if you want superfast internet on a laptop
less hate more kittens
wot about the CD drive i have - will it be ok?
It would probably be easier, and more cost effective to simply buy a new computer. You're current comp is showing it's age now, and upgrading it would probably be a waste of time, as what ever components you leave in will slow down th new components you buy.
I live in your eyes
for 3000 bucks u could probably get 80 GB of hard disk, 512 MB ROM, a 64X CD Rom speed, get optusnet broadband T2 or T1, dont get T3 its a ripoff. get a good screen thats 17 inch witht flat screen.
3000 bucks you are jokeing anre you not, if you think it will cost that much for that stuff your out of your mind, you can get a comp much better than that for 2000 maybe less just dont but from major companys, go to the local pc guy or make your own online, once again not a big company.
I don't know if I should cry or laugh. Well if you paid that much for so little I'll laugh.NightSorrow Posted on May 17 2004, 146

80 gig hdd, well aren't that much if you spend 3000$ on a pc, 512mb ROM is something strange, but if you mean RAM it's still expensive as hell. 64x CD-Rom, why buy a CD-Rom when he already has a DVD-Rom.
T3 a rip off, well that depends on what you intened to use it for, but with 80Gb HDD, not that much.
And Flatscreen good, well they don't take that much space, but otherwise, come on, it's locked for one resolution, if you want to run it in any other you'll lose alot of the screen suface area, better to have a monitor that always use 100% of the screen surface.
i really should have mentioned on the first post on this thread that i got about £350-£400 to spend on upgrade parts (not sure how much that is in dollars i think its 1.6 dollars to the pound or something). So if i buy a new graphics card,CPU and hard drive my PC still will still not be able to play new games because all the the other bits will slow it down?
P.S i discovered the other day that my DVD drive is broken. How much does a new good one cost? Although i only really need it to play UT2004 which for some reason come as a DVD rom...
P.SS So Tiscali 1 or 2 will be fine for online gaming will it? how much does it cost?
all you really need is better vid card (ATI radeon 9800 pro 128 mb or equivalent in G-force), more ram (512 Mb of 400 mhz dual channel ddr ram), better CPU (nothing under 2.4 Ghz), CD rom doesnt really matter
I had this long signature made up, but I didnt like it...
