    Unreal tournament 2006

    taken from the atari forums:
    Game Facts:
    - The new publisher will be Midway instead of Atari.
    - The game will run on the new Unreal Engine 3.
    - Goliath Tank may have destroyable tracks this time around.
    - Scorpion will have an enclosed cabin this time around. Now it has Rocket Boosters.
    - Code name for this new game is "ENVY"
    - 18 Vehicles. 9 Vehicles from UT2K4+ECE and 9 new necris vehicles.
    - The Skaarj team won't be in this game.

    - Further info on the Conquest gametype:
    * Features eight teams, each with unique armor.
    * Conquest maps are "potentially as large as three onslaught maps with assault-like objectives and even a form of limited resource management planned"
    * "there may be the option to treat a conquest match like a long term war, so you can play, take a break, and then go back and play more later"
    * "you can use your stats to find similarly abled opponents"
    * "pre-game lobbies" will be present in some form
    * "clan pages and other sites will be able to be viewed from within the game"
    * "conquest will take advantage of the Unreal Engine 3's ability to seamlessly stream maps by putting you in a battlefield the size of several maps stitched together"
    * "players will battle on one of two teams, each sides terriroty will look physically different, as you take a territory it will convert to the otherteams structures and physical surroundings"
    * "conquest should appeal to a wider gaming audience and provide a place where longer-term strategy, teamwork, and face-to-face fragging all meet"

    - The following Game Modes will be in this game:
    * Onslaught (ONS)
    * DeathMatch (DM)
    * Team Deathmatch (TDM)
    * Capture The Flag (CTF)
    * Conquest (???) - The new game mode.
    Game Modes that will be left out:
    * Bombing Run (BR)
    * Domination (DOM)
    * Assault (AS)

    - 11 Weapons:
    * Rocket Launcher
    * Redeemer
    * Flak Cannon
    * Link Gun
    * Shock Rifle
    * AVRiL
    * Translocator
    * Sniper Rifle
    * Dual Enforcers (Returns from the original Unreal Tournament)
    * Tridium Stinger (Returns from the original Unreal)
    * Canister (New, houses a Grenade Launcher, Mine Layer and a Bio Rifle)

    - 8 Teams with unique Armor:
    * Nakhti
    * Necris
    * Juggernauts
    * The Corrupt
    * Iron Gaurd
    * Krall
    * Jacob's Team (Actually the UT2K4 team, unnamed)
    * Player's Team (Whom you play as in the Single Player Campaign, also unnamed)

    New info from Beyond Unreal:
    * General
    o Classic map Deck 17 returns in "Envy"! -- "The level we brought in first is called Deck 17 [...] because we knew if we made changes and tweaked the movement, everyone would be able to see the difference and the improvement because they knew what the level felt like before." - Jim Brown
    o "We're not trying to make a prettier UT2K4. We're really trying to make a very new game." - Steve Polge
    o Epic aims to correct the steep learning curve seen in UT2003/4, making the game enjoyable for newbies and veteran players alike, hence the ability to use your stats to find similarly-skilled opponents
    o "People in the lobby can say 'Hey, I want to play a capture-the-flag match on this map.' and you'll set it up from there and boom, you'll all go off and play it." - Steve Polge on in-game lobbies.
    o Epic hopes to have deeper community integration in-game for the next UT.
    o Envy is still well over a year away from release, with only 3 out of 13 of the "milestones" involved in creating the game currently completed.
    o According to Epic, Envy's AI and gameplay are already better than that of UT2004, and most other current titles.
    o "Out goal is to make a much better UT than anyone's ever seen." - Steve Polge.
    * Conquest Gametype
    o Currently only exists "on paper".
    o Seen as a replacement for Assault mode.
    * Bots & AI
    o Epic plans to give a lot more personality to the UT Envy bots, shown through their interactions with players and each other in the single player campaign.
    o Bots' personalities will make them better suited to certain tasks.
    o "So if you're doing a flag run, you can hear what's going on back at your base because guys are shouting to each other where the enemy's coming from and what they're doing to prevent it". - Steve Polge
    o Voice command will play a much larger role in UT "Envy".
    o "You'll be able to ask [the bots] questions about their status: 'Is there anybody down in the cavern?', 'No, cavern's all clear'. Or you could throw out warnings like, "There's a sniper on the tower. Go get the sniper.'" - Steve Polge

    I hope the new game is as good as it sounds.

    Eh you mean Quake 4 right??? But too bad they removed UT2k4 from WCG2005. Oh well, at least we now have something new to look forward too

    I just saw a screenshot of Quake 4 and it looks like they are using the doom3 engine for it.

    Probably, but I feel that quake generally generates more "pro" players. I heard that fatality, went to play UT2K4 and trashed everybody else. Also I was kinda disappointed with UT2K3 and K4, the game play changed dramatically from UT99 (my favourite <3) and so I didn't quite like it, although the dodge jumps and wall jumps were real fun XD.

    yep, if you look at a demo of a match, the players will looks like they are clowns because of the jumpiness.

    The new UT looks cool, but as far as I can tell they are making a lot of changes.
    First, they are creating a new game, meaning that they are basically just using the well known name of UT to promote a new game that is very different from the other versions. In my oppinion not so good.
    Second, I can't believe they are removing both assault and domination, they are my two favourite game modes, and I am not sure if I will enjoy the new conquest mode if it is all they are hyping it up to be. I mean, if the maps are that huge, and the whole gaming and all that... It sounds more like Medal Of Honour or Battlefield to me. Not that they are bad, I just feel that when I want to play UT I am not looking for battlefield, you know?
    Third, with all the online stuff integrated in the game itself it should take an immencse amount of space. One of the things I really enjoy with my (original and old) version of UT is that I can have it on my laptop with no problems what so ever.
    The engine sounds good though, and I guess if they pull it of with style it'll all be worth it, but I am going to want to see the game in action before I buy my own copy, that's for sure...

    Isn't it UT2k7?

    Anyway, this is bad news for me, as I have to upgrade my video card to something.... expensive. Higher-end. Unless that engine has some super-efficient use of video resources.

    Looks great, can't wait!
