With great excitement I got my new copy of Mark of Chaos back home today... and it won't load. My machine is a Pentium 4 with 20 gig memory left, a Radeon 9600 video card and 512 RAM, which is comfortably within the minimum specifications on the back of the box.
When I try to load it, at what seems like a random point during the installation, I get a message which reads:
Feature: default feature
Error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)
I have absolutely no idea what this means. If anyone can tell me what it is, or better still tell me how to fix the damn thing, I would be very grateful.
Thanks in advance.
Well, the only time I get a Cyclic Redudancy errorthing is when I try to install something of a CD-R of DVD-r (a copy). But, given this is a pressed, not burned cd I find it rather odd.
Nope, totally legit CD. Perhaps it's thinking it's not a proper version. Interesting thought, but it doesn't solve the problem. Cheers anyway, though.
It means that the CD/DVD is probably damaged. The error you see is an auto-check feature that examines each file for corruption - it's thinking that the data2.cab file is corrupted or damaged, and won't load it.
Best to return it to the store and ask for an exchange.
Let us know if that fixes it for you.
Well, I've got it to work. For anyone else who ends up in this situation, try copying the entire CD onto your hard drive, then installing it from the hard drive. For some weird reason, it works.
Thanks to both of you for suggestions and assistance.
