I was recently talking to my father about his computer problems. His machine had become rather lethargic of late, and his net-browsing was atrociusly slow. I couldn't figure out the problem for the life of me, and I consider myself to be more computer literate than most people of my generation. Fortunately, my stepbrother was able to figure out the problem. It was so simple we never thought to check up on it. My father had a Yahoo! account.
I had a brief chat with my stepbrother, who builds his own computers and firewalls, a little later about Yahoo! and why it was no longer safe to use. He said that Yahoo! has essentially become a conduit for spyware and adware, which I concluded would open the gate for viruses, trojans, and other nasty buggers. This could end up costing Yahoo! users a huge chunk of change in computer repair fees, money that could have been spent on Citadel miniatures or a new D&D suppliment.
I just want to spread the word that Yahoo! is no longer safe to use for anything, including LAUNCHCast Radio, Yahoo!News, and games. Now that you know, tell your friends, and tell them to tell their friends.
I would like to request that this topic be pinned so the whole forum can see it. Thank you for your time.
