    thinking of starting

    i was thinking of starting an army of Circle but i dont know what to get please help me8X

    That's pretty wide-open, 7OF8. We don't really know your playstyle, your modelling preferences, etc.
    But that's OK, I'm just ragging on you.

    Firstly, you'll want to get the Rulebook, "Hordes: Primal". That's the no-brainer. Eventually, you'll want to get Evolution, too, because that contains some supplemental rules, new units and errata.

    After that, it's figure-buying time. You can either buy the Battlebox and expand off of it, though pretty quickly, you'll only be using one model from that Box.

    Circle lists come in two rough types: Furries and Constructs. (Werewolves and Golems, basically.) Each has their own pros and cons and each has Warlocks that work best with them.

    The ten-thousand foot view has the Furries being much faster and hitting harder, but the Constructs are more reslient, if slower. The Constructs have less fury, but also have ranged attacks.

    There is a commonly seen list called "Krueger Lightning Spam" that emphasizes Constructs led by Warlock Krueger. It's quite a hard list to beat.

    If you give out a little bit more info on how you like to play or which models catch your eye, then we can put together a nice little 500 point list that should be pretty competitive.

    The best way to pick up Hordes is to go out and buy a copy of the rulebook: Hordes: Primal

    You'll need it if you're going to play seriously. It has almost all the necessary rules. More importantly, it has stats, fluff, and some great artwork for the majority of the units in each faction.

    Read through the rulebook and pick out some units which you find appealing. Especially with Orobouros, you're better off picking up units that you think are cool than going for the Starter Set.

    Why? Well, it's those Arguses, sadly. You get two in the starter set, and they're just bad. I wish it were otherwise, cause they seem really cool, but they're just terrible warbeasts, and the inclusion in the box makes the box a bad buy. Kaya is also a much trickier 'lock than the other two (and, frankly, a little worse as well).

    Essentially, a good army will need a Warlock, two or three Warbeasts, and a unit or two of Infantry or Cavalry.

    First, pick a Warlock that you like, and select some Warbeasts to go with it. The army will basically not function without a Warlock and a Warbeast or three.

    There are three Warlocks in Primal, as well as two Heavy Warbeasts and three Light Warbeasts.

    If you like Kaya, go for her. She's alright. She works particularly well with the Warp Wolves, which are actually pretty good Warbeasts. The Pureblood Warpwolf from Evolution is also a good pick.

    Baldur works particular well with the Elemental Constructs: the Woldwatcher and Woldwarden. If you pick Baldur, you should probably stick to some assortement of these two 'beasts'.

    Krueger works well with most of the Beasts available to the Circle army (though, once again, I really advise that you stay away from those Arguses.)

    Pretty much any of the Circle infantry (or their Wolf Rider cavalry, which can be found in Evolution) are fine picks, so just go with something that seems cool. When buying infantry, pick up the Unit Box for the infantry type you're interested in. That will include the minimum number of models which can be fielded as a unit.

    You can buy extra models for the unit in blisters, but it's probably wise to play the unit a couple times, first, and decide whether you really like it enough to spend more money on it.


    There are also two more warlocks, a few more Beasts, and some more units and solos in Hordes: Evolution, which you might consider if you don't find yourself all that attracted to the stuff in Primal.


    You can also, of course, not buy any models and either borrow models from other people or use card-board cut-outs for proxies so that you can try out stuff and make sure you like it before you sink money into it.

    Either way, Hordes: Primal should probably be your first purchase. Especially in Hordes, you're not really going to get anywhere fast without a copy of the rulebook.

    Based on your prior communications, it's clear you're geared more towards the animalistic side of Circle. Good. Let's build a 500 point list, shall we?

    If I were to suggest a Warlock along those lines, it would be Kromac the Ravenous. (In the Evolution Book) He is able to change from a normal Tharn into a Beast. When he does, he goes from pretty capable caster to Unholy Combat Monster. In short, Kromac Rules.

    Kromac works well with Warpwolves, so we'll add one in there. A Gorax is next on the list and his Animus is simply amazing when used on a Warpwolf.

    Continuing with the Tharn madness, Tharn Wolfriders work amazingly with Kromac and they are some of the finest cavalry units in the game.

    Tharn Ravagers are the Tharn heavy hitters and a full unit of them is to be rightly feared. They become especially effective when escorted by a Shaman.

    Shifting Stones are an exceedingly useful unit for Circle players, making them even faster, so those have to go in.

    Finally, a Lord of the Feast is something I've personally seen used to great effect. It's fast, it's a terror-causer and it's Offering ability is feared by all Circle opponents who know what it does.

    That gives you a nice mix of Beasts, units and solos in a flexible, powerful and extendable 500 point list.

    I dunno about that Gorax. I'd much rather see some stuff cut to fit in another Warpwolf or maybe even one of the Satyrs (counterslam is pretty good).

    I'm not really familiar with the point-costs, though. Maybe the Lord of the Feast could drop to make room for the switch? He's alright, but his loss wouldn't be disastrous.

    That Shaman's gotta stay, though--he's pretty much fantastic. As are the wolves.

    I didn't pick the Satyr because it isn't out yet, as far as I know.

    The Lord of the Feast is in there for fluff purposes. It's a more-than-capable model and it looks way cool.

    The Gorax makes a Warpwolf go nuclear. With the Controlled Warping and the Gorax' Primal, the Warpwolf is now MAT8 and STR14. That's awesome, right there.

    If anything, I would ditch the Lord for another Wolfrider, maybe? Teleportation vs. really fast wolf. It's six of one, a half dozen of the other. With Kromac's Bestial spell on the Wolfrider, though, that's a little different.
