With two armies represented by a Blog thread, I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon, erm, I mean, record how I go with my own Hordes army.
In stealing ideas from Nite and Merc, one might ask the question why I chose to collect Skorne of all armies. Initially I was going to start with Circle, but chose against them because they're too similar to WEs, and I don't really have a GW equivalent of the Skorne. Plus, of course, the ancient Japanese-style models were too cool to pass up.
This will be very interesting in how it works out, as I'll be starting this force with a Magnus' Agenda force from WM.
-11th November, 2008-
The list I plan to work towards will look like this:
Master Tormentor Morghoul
Paingiver Beast Handlers (5)
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew
Though I plan to have an "alternate" force that looks like this:
Master Tormentor Morghoul
Paingiver Beast Handlers (4)
Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor
Interestingly enough, my collection, and what I have painted stands at this:
Go figure. Hopefully within the next week or so, Toshi will get the order out to the WarStore, and I'll be able to make either of the two forces, and get some games in. So far it's early days.
Onto the business of photographs, yes, Makeda is painted. If I post a picture, all it will do is provide hope for the rest of us that are useless. So I'll only post if you promise not to laugh too loudly.
I hope Merc and Nite don't get too mad at me for stealing their idea, and I also hope that you enjoy this as much as I do.
Also I didn't know the Librarium-Online website used Skorne, gives me a weird HAL 9000 vibe.
On a more serious note, congrats! I love these little blogs with tracking armies and seeing how well people are doing. Glad you picked Skorne up as well, I was originally going to do them for my reboot, then went with Legion, then thought my money would be better spent elsewhere so I went back to my Trolls, were are still sadly underplayed around here.
Like I said before I really like the second list since the fluff and theme are nice, and Skorne doesn't have many natural counters to spells so Orin fills a good spot. The first one I enjoy as well, and think they can both be interchanged quite well.
Why not use Makeda since you have her? Makeda has some really cool options available, and can run less beasts and more infantry quite well, but that's a personal preference.
Overall I'm eager to see what my buddy AFG will be doing here, I'd love to see that pic as well to see what paint scheme you are going with. My idea was a pearl white scheme with a gold trim, I thought that would look elegant and still deadly.

So the pictures will be up when I get access to a digital camera (I tried with my phone, but taht idea blew up with the Titanic), but for now, I revel in my latest purchase.
Went to Heroes (local stockist), and picked up the warpack- the manager went to the back of the store, and gave me one he brought on special, saving me $20- plus two blisters of paingivers. If I can borrow Orin Midwinter for games, that will be a 350pt force. Nifteh.
I'm bogged down with exams for the next week, so don't even think about asking me to get them painted, or possibly even assembled for a while. I'll see how things go.
I must say, the cards for the cyclops savage and titan gladiators are really ugly. Morghoul looks like he's from the third LOTR movie, and the paingivers showed up without cards. Not sure if that's supposed to happen or not.

Heya. Great to see that there's more blogs for the factions down here in the Hordes section. It makes me proud to see that my work has borne fruit and blossomed into something fun and exciting. We've got a blog for each faction now, if I'm not mistaken, and though I haven't updated mine for several months I'm beginning to get back into the swing of things. In the meantime, your plans are looking good and solid, and I'm certainly not angry for you stealing the idea. Keep up the good work and let's see some pics!
Incidentally, what made you decide to choose Makeda? I'm just interested because there are a fair few very interesting warlocks to play over on the Skorne corner of the books; I particularly like Hexeris and Morghoul.
Thanks for the words of inspiration, and not exploding over my plagiarism (well, it's technically not plagiarism if you acknowledge the fact that you stole the idea...right?).
Technically the definition for plagiarism is taking someone else's work and trying to pass it off as your own so no, it's not really. :p
But I digress,
So I said I wouldn't do any assembling for a while. I lied. Yes, I went back on my word, and now have Morghoul and the two cyclops done, and the titan should be done tonight.
Morghoul was completely painless, and looks like he'll be a joy to paint (I'm thinking shifty black clothing, with maybe a few dust colours- the model seems Egyptian to me, don't ask why), hopefully with a bit more luck than Makeda.
The first cyclops was relatively ok to put together, barring the falchion. The second one, on the other hand...
Turns out that either I screwed up big time in arm selection (shouldn't be the case- I took the pairs from their separate compartments, as works with GW), or PP screwed up with arm length. As a result, everything had to be glued on at least twice, and I now have super glue all over my fingers (which, come to think of it, has mostly come off now- I guess I use a cheap brand).
Cyclops one looks pretty cool, like a statuesque guardian. Cyclops two will require a LOT of green stuff, then he/she/it should look better in their own way (like a big action pose). Again, pictures when I'm ready, and can get them.
The gladiator has so far been painless, but the base has been a little irritating. I have no idea how to use an electric drill, so I used a screw instead (got the job done fast enough, and well enough). Unfortunately, I hit the wrong part of the base (that groove where slots usually go), so part of it's destroyed, but conveniently covered by the foot.
One thing I noticed is that there are TONS of gaps. Could just be me, and a bit of GS should fix the problem, but am I the only one who noticed this, or did I just do a bad job of assembling them?
Got my first game in today- coincidentally vs another Skorne player. I used my alternate list (borrowed Midwinter), and faced Hexeris, a Cannoneer, a Gladiator, and a Basilisk Drake.
As far as learning curbs go, that was pretty good, and I'll have a good look at the abilities of all my stuff at some point.
Started off with Midwinter missing a cannoneer with his lightning arc (on double ones!), and the armies walking towards each other, shouting rude names, and that was about it. Once combat was reached, I sent a pissed off gladiator into his own gladiator, and came this close to killing it off.
I tossed it into the basilisk, and sent in a cyclops to finish the thing off, which it did. My other cyclops then charged the basilisk, and came pretty close to killing it. I finished off said turn by moving Orin forwards, then using his anti-magic ability, creating a null zone for his turn (pity it doesn't extend to Animi).
The basilisk ran around the back and started zapping my paingivers, and managed to combine with the cannoneer to to 14 damage to Morghoul, which I promptly transferred to a cyclops that was now in the middle of nowhere. Hexeris, too, ran back, and stood by the cannoneer, ready for my second strike.
Final turn, I cast Abuse on the gladiator, and sent the thing smashing into Hexeris. It did pretty well, knocking off about 2/3 of his health. Cue the re-entry of Orin Midwinter, and he seemed eager to make up for his first turn error. He managed to hit the gladiator, then the lightning went to hit one more model (either Hexeris or the gladiator- even an impartial umpire couldn't decide, so we rolled for it). The die came up as a 4, and the lightning hit Hexeris! Better yet, Orin rolled a double six for damage, just managing to kill the vampire, winning me the game.
Highlights included the double six at the end, the gladiator smashing his opposite number, the remaining paingiver retreating to join the next game, and a drunk P-addict walking in, and firing random gaming terms and strategies at both of us. I had a hard time trying to make my hand over my mouth look like strategising, and not restraining laughter.
- Paingivers are awesome- especially with the Gladiator's grand slam
- The basilisk is a great piece. I want one, maybe when I bring my list up to 500pts.
- 350-point games go really quickly. I have two lined up next week
Next week is the final week of the club for the year. Got a 350-point game against Legion, and another vs Khador. I plan to use the same list (rather obvious really) again then, and see how I fare against the likes of the Carnivean or the Behemoth. Hopefully they'll be as fun as this one was (though hopefully without the third person- I was terrified for my laptop when he showed up).
ED: Oh yeah, and I have an idea for a 500pt beast list to work towards:
*Master Tormentor Morghoul
*Agoniser (can be swapped out for an Ancestral Guardian if going one point over is really a problem)
*Gudrun the Wanderer
501 pts, 21 VPs
Very much a "Move Fast; Hit Hard" theme to it. Of course, this will probably change when I get a few more games in, and I also like the idea of an infantry-themed force. Bit of a case of watch this space, really.

Awesome you had some amazing luck there AFG, that was an impressive kill, wish I could have seen it. Best of luck on the next two games, Everblight can be a pain in the ass, and Circle can outmanuever easily. But I think you can do it, SWEEP THE LEG AFG!
The list looks waaay different to me, whether it's a good or bad different I have no idea. Seems unit light for being 500, I usually see at least one full unit of...something. If you run the Statue thing you will need some bodies to buff it up, a unit of the sword dudes or something could work.
Get some pictures up as well dude, I want to see the Skorne in all their torturous glory.
