I wish we had a little more variety in the factions at my store. I've only ever played one game against Retribution and they looks like a tough army to face. Strakhov is probably my favorite 'caster to play of the three I've used thus far.

From what I can remember this is what we have, only taking into account a person's main faction:

    4x Menoth
    3x Cygnar
    3x Retribution
    2x Khador
    1x Mercenary

Might be missing a few people not in the league and stuff, and a lot of people have alternate factions as well (I got Rhulic and like three Hordes factions on the side).

Been a little while since I was able to update this thread but I've been playing.

I lost a game with Strakhov to a beast heavy eKaya list. Kaya's feat let her three beasts demolish my Spriggan and then avoid retaliation from my Kodiak and Great Bears, leaving me with only one heavy 'jack against his three heavies. It didn't end well, although I managed to draw it out.

That white circle used to be my Spriggan. You can see how far away Kaya's beasts are.

I also played two games against a Cygnar player while I was on vacation. He was playing Siege with the Thunderhead, a Defender, Gunmages + UA, and Reinhold.

I beat him in the first game with pButcher on some good rolls and a strong feat turn.

Here we are around turn 2 or 3, with my Doom Reavers about to get shocked by the Thunderhead.

In the second game I got a chance to try pIrusk and Kayazys for the first time - they're pretty awesome. The Kayazy tied up the Thunderhead for my Great Bears to destroy and then it was just me mopping up.

    Deployment.

I'm currently painting a Spriggan and assembling the rest of my Kayazy for a tournament next weekend.

I really like MkII, but I don't think I played any more than 2 or 3 MkI games so I can't much tell the difference.

I got in two games a few weeks ago (I played in a Malifaux tournament this weekend) that I lost terribly. We're practicing for the New England Team Tournament which is this coming weekend, and the players are several levels better than I am.

The first game was against an eHaley list that I probably could have beaten if I had been paying better attention, but her feat really throws me off.

The second game was an eGaspy, Bane Knight, Soul Hunter list that really tore me apart on feat turn. I was doing alright for most of the game by tying up the Bane's with Kayazy and getting right of the Soul Hunters, but they came back on feat turn and ran through everything to kill Irusk.

I'll be at the team tournament this coming weekend so I'll probably have a few more tales of me getting horribly beaten by top tier players.

Have you been playing at all? I saw all the great looking Circle and Skorne you've been painting up.

Ta dude, I'm doing good, really enjoying mk2, but I do wish they'd hurry up with the final Hordes rules...
I recently moved away from London a few months back and haven't been able to find a group that plays where I am now, but I've been hitting Vassal a bit as my London club invited me along to a 4-man, 50pt team event in July (the European Team Challenge, if you've heard of it?), and I need the practice!

eGhaspy is really horrible, the feat is such a pain in the ass... My favoured method of surviving it is my making sure his ghostly guys can't see you (they still need LOS to charge you), so hide behind some handy clouds (I think Greylords can still do this, right?), or terrain if it's there...
One of my team-mates is taking him along, so I've been trying to get my head round him.
I've found that the feat is really his trick, though, and if you weather that then he is pretty fragile... Army aside, of course...!

Have you tried Strakhov out yet? Again, one of my team-mates is taking him, and he is a beast!
Super alpha strike potential, but it does leave him a little out there if you're not careful... Plus, his spell list is pretty handy, and superiority is always good.

Good luck at the tourney, and remember, as long as you learn something it isn't a loss!

I'm taking Kromac along to the tourney, I might start a log of my experiences, but thus far they've been great... 4 games, 4 wins!
I finished painting my (current) Circle collection yesterday, so I guess I should get round to posting the pics...

    So I will.
Looking forward to hearing your experiences!

I'm also looking forward to the new Hordes rules being released so I can get started with this big Trolls army I just bought.

Greylords do still make clouds but I don't have any in the main list I'll be using. I'm taking:

    pIrusk
    +Spriggan
    +Kodiak
    10 Kayazy + Underboss
    Great Bears
    Widowmakers
    Koldun Lord
    Kell Bailoch

I suppose the Kodiak could vent steam and Irusk could hide behind that, but I still don't like my odds. I'll take a look at some terrain options if I run into him at the tournament.

I have tried Strakhov and while he's probably my favorite 'caster to play I've found he isn't as powerful as I thought initially. If my opponent can prevent my from getting an alpha strike, or can minimize the effect of the strike, Strakhov is in pretty rough shape. He gets a lot worse as his army starts to die (which is what happens to a failed alpha strike) and doesn't always have the tools to take out another 'caster alone. He's still a ton of fun to play though, and he's my second list for the tournament next weekend.

I saw the finished Circle army posted up in the projects forum - it looks quite nice. Have you seen the stats and / or model for the new Warpwolf?

This past weekend the local Press Ganger and I took a trip down to Connecticut for the New England Team Tournament. There were 32 players crammed into an a very warm gaming room playing some very intense games of Warmachine and raising money for a good cause.

I'm not positive of the breakdown but there were three Hordes players (Legion, Trolls, and Circle), 8 or 9 Cryx players, 8 or 9 Cygnar players, and then a smattering of Mercs, Khador, and Menoth to round it out.

I ran an Irusk list the whole day that had a Spriggan and Kodiak, 10 Kayazy and Underboss, Great Bears, Widowmakers, Koldun Lord, and Kell. I ended up going 1-2 on the day.

    Game 1
I lost this game to one of the eventual two first place finishers so I don't feel too bad about it. He was running a Terminus list that had a single arc node and more Mechanithralls, Bile Thralls, and other infantry than I think I've ever seen.

On my second turn Irusk feated and put Battle Lust on the Kayazy who then charged an ARM 27 Terminus. Even with the bonuses from charging, Battle Lust, and Gang the six Kayazy who got into range were only able to do about 5 points of damage. As I think about it now they were probably lucky to do even that much.

On his next turn Terminus just flew out of the melee (taking 5 free strikes and another point of damage) and two shotted Irusk.

    Game 2
This was against a pMagnus list with a Nomad, 2 Renegades, 10 Nyss Hunters, 6 Kayazy and Underboss, and a few solos.

I made a huge mistake on my second turn moving Irusk too far forward and paid for it with two boosted Renegade shots. Irusk was dead but thankfully had feated and he made his Tough check. After surviving that mess I started to roll over his army, eliminating everything but Magnus and the three 'jacks.

Magnus was looking pretty dead on my next turn so he went for a pretty low percentage assassination run on Irusk. One of the Renegades moved out of combat with two Great Bears and survived both free strikes from them. It was then just barely in range of Irusk for Magnus to arc Arcantrik Bolt through it. With boosted hit and damage rolls he was able to do that final point of damage.

I was pretty annoyed at myself in this game. I should have been a lot more aware of the Renegades and what they could do because I thought about a Magnus army before I picked Trolls and am reasonably familiar with what that army can do. After surviving the two shots I got too confident because I was doing well and didn't think about their arc node capabilities. I could have moved Irusk anywhere on the board that turn to keep him safe and I chose to put him closer to the arc nodes because I wasn't thinking.

    Game 3
This game I got to play my second ever game against Retribution. It was a Rahn list with a Phoenix and Manticore, Battle Mages, 6 Sentinels, one Arcanist, 2 Magisters, 2 Mage Hunter Assassins, and Narn.

I was pretty successful in rolling over his army but late in the game he used Narn and an Assassin to sneak behind my lines, kill my back line, and pick up a control point. I had to made big push on his control point to score one of my own so I wouldn't lose and then then dice down was called. I had a lot more of my army in his control zone than he had in mine so I snuck out a win on the tie breaker.

I should have been paying more attention to defending my control point but I got a bit carried away killing his army.

All in all it was a great day playing little men and I had a lot of fun. I think I should have won that second game but I don't have anyone to blame but myself for losing it. I got to see some gorgeous armies and very talented players as well as meet a bunch of great people.
