I just started playing Warmachine about 2 months ago, but I was learning with a Cryx army my friend gave me. Now that I've kind of got the hang of it (ish) I bought a Khador army to start making it out on my own. I'm looking for some advice on starting a Khador army list. Apparently, the warcasters I like the most, eVlad and Karchev, are not all that great. Are there any lists that are good with them, or should I just use an easier list with an easier caster?
Thanks for the help!
Khador is a pretty balanced faction, and Warmachine is pretty balanced as a game, so you shouldn't feel like you need to play any specific 'caster to compete. I'm a Khador player and although I don't play either of those 'casters I can offer some basic thoughts. Karchev is totally a 'jack 'caster so you're probably going to want two or three 'jacks with him and a unit of mechanics to keep them all running. He doesn't have any spells to buff units or solos in his army so you're going to want self sufficient warriors with him. Think Great Bears, Widowmakers, Manhunters, etc.
EVlad I know even less about, but his feat is clearly geared towards infantry and he has some good infantry buff spells so you'd probably want to go a little more infantry heavy with him.
Alright well to start off, I don't normally use Epic Vlad, I use Prime Vlad. But I think that EVlad has some great things going on for him, including a few upkeep spells, which can really help out. And his special ability Might of Kings is awesome, paired together with Martial Paragon he is a beast.
Now then, compared to karchev, he is a little bit easier to kill, couple karchev with a couple of mekanichs and he can stay alive for quite a while. The only problem that I have with Karchev is how few focus he gets. you're going to have to couple him with a few jacks and some infantry to do some damage, but at least he's almost like another jack right? That and don't forget about Fissure, any time it hits another model that model is knocked down, and it auto hits because it's a spray. Once they're knocked down, rush your other jacks in to auto hit and kill whatever it is.
Karchev will do well with pretty much any close combat jack, since he is a close combat caster, or so it seems. Vlad though is a bit harder, it really depends on your points value.
I serve my master and do as he wants. He wants the badlands, thus they will be his.
