Looking at getting into Warmachine, really like the look of the Cygnar faction. Hoping to pick up the starter set (hopefully in metal as I prefer it over the plastic), journeyman warcaster and a unit of trenchers as I really like the look of those two units.
Does anyone have any advice on how to expand further? Another warjack seems like a good investment, does anyone have any tips on which one? Cheers!
Hmm, I was going to try and help, but I realised I don't really know as much about Cygnar as I thought I did. Luckily, my Cygnar-playing brother happens to be nearby, and from him I managed to extract the following suggestions;
If you're taking a Journeyman, it may be a good idea to have them marshalling a Defender or a Hunter. Allows you to keep your Journeyman back out of harms way (maybe)
Also, with the bulk of your forces being 'jacks, taking some Field Mechanics or Captian Arlan Strangeways to keep your 'jacks running might be a good investment.
He also mentioned something about the Squire and the Black 13th being very good units... And possibly picking up a second Warcaster, as just changing your warcaster can really change the way a list plays (even if it's the exact same list!)
Hope the suggestions help!
I like the idea of giving the journeyman a "shooty" jack to keep him out of combat. I'm a little short on cash, so I'm hesitant to buy a lot of models.
So far I've managed to pick up the starter set off ebay and a unit of 10 trenchers and the journeyman off a friend. I'm thinking of running the charger with the journeyman, simply because it saves me buying another jack (for now). I've heard a squire is really good as well. I don't have any experience with it, or know what it does... Could anyone explain it to me?
From what little I know... Actually, why bother remembering stuff when I can read things out a rulebook?
Okay, so as long as its within a certain distance of the warcaster it's attached to, it extends their control area a little and allows them to re-roll a single magic attack per turn. Also can give them a bit of extra focus a couple of times. Looks handy.
Having just had a bit of a look at the Charger rules, too, it also looks like a decent jack to run with the Journeyman. It might be a little more focus-thirsty then the Hunter but if your Journeyman's standing back and out of range of casting spells they may as well be putting most of their focus towards their 'jack anyhow.
Your initial ideas are solid for Cygnar (that's my faction).
For additional expansion pick up a Defender Heavy Warjack, and maybe a box of Arcane Tempest Gun Mages. These will continue to enhance the feel of Cygnar for youy as well as being miniatures you will likely often include in armies for years.
I will also tell you that my favorite Warcaster is prime Haley (Captain Victoria Haley, the non-epic version). She's easy to use and can be a handful for your opponent. It was better back when her Scramble spell only cost 2 Focus instead of three but it is still a fun one to use.
There is a nice variant pose of her which I prefer.
