Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm am a Warhammer 40k veteran and am looking for something new. I have asked alot of people in alot of forums and many have said that Warmachine is very different from 40k. Plus the models are more affordable than the GW models now that they're hiking up the prices. I have no idea how the game works but I liked the look of the Khador models.
Please give me some advice or anything that a newb should know to get started.
Well, probably the best advice I can offer is to go to their website:
Iron Kingdoms Warmachine
They cover most of the basics on the site, and there's a download for the quickplay rules, which will introduce you to how the game is played. All the unit stats and rules come in the main rulebooks, which there are currently 2 of, and a third to be released later this year. There range of models look absolutely brilliant, and are being upgraded all the time, while still remaining nicely priced.
If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask me here. For some extra details, go to their dedicated forum, which can be found at the top of the page in the link I provided. Cheers,
Aah, the noble cygnarians. Well, good luck to your collections, and a quick question for you. What did you order, what kind of list you gonna play (please say it's not another cygnar turtle), and why you wanted to start warmachine.Originally Posted by karantalsis
I myself am collecting menoth and cygnar. Both horde type armies with cc abilities, but with completely differant playing styles.
I was going for a caine based run and gun list, not ordered yet, but will be as sson as I see a friend who can get me a dsicount on models.
Something like this:
The idea is to use the trenchers long gunners (sniped) and the sentinel to lay down fire whilst the ATGM mess with the enemy jacks to disrupt them, or just push their heavy troops around, allowing the relatively quick Caine and GMCA to nip round the flank and hunt down the warcaster.
Hopefully if Caine and GMCA get into bother with troops (they should be able to avoid the jacks) Caien can pop his feat and clear a path.
I'm gonna have to buy and read the rule books, because all the stuff y'all are sayin is startin to sound like chinese jiberish. And another question. Should I buy the khador starter set with the models, or the rulebooks?
Looks like a decent list, although you probably should know that you don't include trenchers to shoot with, they're there to hold the centre of the board while popping a smoke screen so your CC units can advance without the harassment of incoming fire, oh and they're also a good unit to hide a caster behind, before moving him out and casting a few spells, and they make good hold the charge troops as well.Originally Posted by karantalsis
I personally don't like the sentinel, I think it's overpriced for its limited capabilities. The points saved could go towards maxing the units or another solo. Be aware with using solo's that they're easy points for the opposition to take on if not properly supported, and give easy to grab VC points.
To adress your question Bane_of_the_Mon'keig, the beuty of buying the starter boxes is they come with the quickplay rules and stat cards for the contents, meaning you can understand there capabilities and have a few games to see if you like it, before investing in the rulebook.
The Starter box is brialliant, its cheap and has everything you need for games. So play a few of the box set games and learn how to distribute focus (ull learn what it means) then you can add on units and go to 500 points, and when you think your ready, you can go to 1000 points, but i think that gets even harder.
Visit their website: www.ikwarmachine.com and check out their forums, it has lots of info you would want to read over.
Personally, i prefer privateer press over Games Workshop, mainly bc, nothing gets jacked up in prices and the community is overall better, bc you dont have as many people whining (trying not to start flamming).
If your looking at Khador, then relieze...
1-They have the highest armour basically
2-Lowest defense basically
3-You're warcasters are vicious in melee (i.e the butcher)
This coming from a Warmachine lover since last year, I would strongly suggest it! Good Luck! But you will never beat Cygnar, Betst Faction EVER!!
Oh yeah for your Caine list, wheres your melee, unless your trenchers can do it, I would suggest swordknights, bc you have enough shooting already, imo. (or even storm blades)
