Well, it isn't a huge collection, but it's a large-enough one. I figure it might spark some more participation in this particular region of LO, seeing as the painting forum is so GW-focused.
The scheme is inspired by classic Russian military garb, which was primarily green & white (see here). Modified obviously to fit the minis.
In the past I've run lots of jack-heavy Vlad lists (since he can handle infinite numbers of them thanks to S&P). But for the last few months I've been all about Irusk and infantry. My usual list for 500 is:
- Kommandant Irusk
- Greylords Ternion
- MoW Demo Corps (5) [proxied by my Troll Champs]
- Winterguard Mortar Crew
- Reinholdt, Gobbo Speculator
Many people doubt Reinholt's usefulness in a Khadorian army, but his ability to shoot extra works wonders with Irusk (who's gun is stronger than his sword).
The Kodiak and Marauder work together - the M chain Slams anyone he can, and the Kodiak Hammerfist/chain Brutality's them. It works better than you'd think, given that both jacks have been around so long.
The Greylords and MoW work together as well - the MoW move up front, and are usually covered by the Greylords' Blizzard. When in range, the Greylords either eat up weak infantry with their spray attacks or lock down 'jacks for the MoW to demolish.
Irusk follows up amongst the Greylords, in support of the MoW. He's got a few spells that work very well with them (Battlelust, despite the "Fearless" being wasted, is my fav on them - THREE attacks each at 14+3D6 OFF the charge...). His gun supports the Greylords well too, keeping the low-numbered MoW from being swamped. Inhospitable Ground makes up for the relative speed of the MoW & 'jacks.
Most think Irusk really needs most or only infantry to work. I disagree, though. Superiority is a great spell (and works great on either 'jack in this list). Grind, Battlelust, Iron Flesh (for Greylords if they're in a sticky spot), and Airburst eat up a lot of FOC, but with 7, he can usually handle 2-3 warjacks. The real reason people think he needs infantry is his feat. But honestly? It works great with what I've got here. +2 on attack rolls for MoW DC, Greylords, a Manhunter, and Mortar Crew? Yes please! Tough? Sure! Fearless is wasted on warjacks & MoW? Bah, after the other bonuses, I'm fine with that.
Anyways, I'd love feedback on this list. I've used it with fairly good success (more than 1:1, at least), but I'm always open for improvement.
And, since this is what you're all clicking this thread for, picks of all of my (painted) Khador models:
eButcher (WiP, since finished but no time to resnap pics)
Widowmakers (whom I, unlike most Khador players, never use)
Greylords Ternion (essential to all Khador lists!)
Doomreaver... thats right, one of them. (<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank">click here to see why I stopped painting after the first one...</a>).
Eiryss, the elf girl who is never used except by my friends.... who need to borrow my model. sigh.
Just for the fun of it, here is my usual Vlad list for 500:
- Vladimir Tzepesci
- Greylords Ternion
- MoW Demo Corps (5)
- Winterguard Mortar Crew
Works similar to the Irusk list, but Vlad cast's Signs & Portents every turn, then Blood of Kings (if he's near melee or might take damage). His feat is popped when the 'jacks are within a good turn's run/charge of the foe - not unexpected, but rarely precompensated for.
Alternately, I drop some things and run Vlad with two Berserkers and a Kodiak (plus this or that infantry/solos) - they all benefit greatly from S&P!
Very nicely done!
I like the look of your minis.
My wife plays Khador. She revels in pounding my Cygnarans into the dirt.
I am unfamiliar with Irusk--I haven't faced him; (I've fought Kharchev, Vlad and Sorscha) so I can't really help you there.
But I can tell you the Demolition Corps is rock solid. Those are some tough hombres. The Greylords are a pain in the opponents butt, your 'jacks are good designs, and the mortar outranges anything Cygnar has so I'd say you have a very solid list there.
"The sword that takes life gives life."
Your scheme is very nice, It's always good to see alternative painting styles in Warmachine. The scheme is inspired by classic Russian military garb, which was primarily green & whiteNah, Reinholt is cool. It's very cheap, so why not if you have any extra points. Many people doubt Reinholt's usefulness in a Khadorian army, but his ability to shoot extra works wonders with Irusk (who's gun is stronger than his sword).Yeah, Kodiak's chain attack is very nice and it is one of my favourite jacks, because it can do tons of stuff. Can't say much about Marauder, but I'm sure it hits hard like any other Khador jack. The Kodiak and Marauder work together...Ah yes, I use the same tactic with my Ironfangs, works very well on them so why not with MoW also. The Greylords and MoW work together as well...
So a pretty nice list overall, I like it. Can't say much about Irusk, because I have never seen it on table, but I'm sure it works well with your jacks, specially with Kodiak. I think any caster can get Kodiak, because it is so flexible and doesen't need much focus.
Hmm, seems like Irusk is the underdog in more than just my gaming group. People seem to think he needs all or almost-entirely infantry lists to work with. And since most Khador players are there because of the big honkin' warjacks (myself included), Irusk is left out cold. But with his spell Superiority (upkeep, warjack gets +2SPD, MAT, & DEF, cannot be knocked down) and 7 FOC, he rocks with a couple of the big baddies. He's also a great ranged attacker (RoF2 P13 gun, and the LoS-ignoring AoE3 Airburst), something that most people don't expect against Khador. Lots of fun!
The thing about the Marauder is that he isn't as straightforward as the other Khador warjacks tend to be, so folks leave him out cold too. He has two P+S15 arms, which is decent. But his Combo Slam is the big deal: make one attack, if it hits the enemy gets a P+S18 hit AND is Slammed (as in the Power Attack). The best part? The Slam doesn't have to be in a straight line (which the PA version does) - he can Slam the enemy towards any direction in his front arc! And since Slam results in a knockdown? The Kodiak jumps in, gets a free 3D6 (which can still get boosted from FOC or Charges), and performs an auto-hitting massive Spine Crusher combo. Last time I pulled this off, it was on the Thunderhead. Took the guy right out by itself.
Damn, that sounds nice. I'd really like to have that 7 focus points. Superioty sounds very nice too, it makes Khador jacks very nice.Superiority (upkeep, warjack gets +2SPD, MAT, & DEF, cannot be knocked down) and 7 FOCAh, that is sweet. I think I'll have to think about getting Marauder in the future.P+S18 hit AND is Slammed (as in the Power Attack)...
Irusk seems to have a few Warjack boosting abilities, so I think it can work with jacks. If he works for you, then I can't see why not to use him
Definitely. One of the more brutal tactics I've seen is casting Superiority on the Behemoth, and then using a Kodiak or Devastator to two hand throw the Behemoth towards the enemy. Due to the spell, he lands on his feet, and then can activate and move forward into the fray!Superioty sounds very nice too, it makes Khador jacks very nice.
HAHAHAHAHA! Thats awesome. Reminds me of the Cygnar tactic involving Darius, Nemo, Gun Mages and a Gun Mage adept. Darius casts movement spell on a Centurion, after Nemo drops 5 focus on it, Nemo casts movement spell on Cent., all Gun Mages shoot it seperately, not doing much damage, but picking Thunderbolt each time. Cent moves forward sick distance, and activates, with 5 focus! Muahahaha. By the way, verrry nice painting, I love you alt scheme.
