I like the eyes. It's amazing how the model comes together when the eyes are finished. Did you add more highlights to the bone? It looks very good.

Nice OSL on the eyes kuff. My first attempts at "glowing" have been less than satisfactory(to me).

OK, well been a while - due to work, other commitments etc - but he is now done. I have been working on the base, and here I was aiming to get a sort of aged look on the stones and following with the rest of the mini give it the green glow. I think it has sort of been pulled off, not too well but neither has it failed utterly. Anyway, here is a picture - not the best I'm afraid. Tell you the truth, until I added the wraith, I thought the base was ruined. Luckily, as it turns out, it works none too badly. =D ![]() What have I learnt? Well, when doing OSL or any other form of directional lighting, you need to be consistent and know exactly where the light is coming from and where it will hit. Failure to do this could mean it goes all wrong. Oh and, I need more practice at this sort of thing. =D Incidentally, this will be the last mini I paint for a short while. Reason? I move to Sheffield university in about two weeks and the week before I move will be packing; leaving me with about two days of painting. Not worth starting anything then. So, when I get chance I will hopefully pick up my paint brush once more; until then I'm afraid they must be laid to rest. KU |

I like it. The greenish gives it a nice eerie feeling. Hey Kuffy, check out my thread in the projects section and let me know what you think? |

Well, I said I'd do you a crit when you'd finished, so here it is: Overall, looks very good. Technique wise and brush control seem very good, and many parts look fantastic (especially the back of the robes). However, going back to what you were trying to do with your OSL and general mood, I'm not sure you've gone far enough with the contrast. My number one rule for doing any kind of hard lighting is: Keep everything dark! The bone and wooden shaft need to be much darker, especially on the front of the model (which is supposed to be in shadow, I believe...). The surrounding base also needs to be much darker. Go and stand outside at night, holding some wood and some paper (or bone, if you happen to have some around...). See how dark they are? That is what you're looking for... =P The lighting around the eyes kinda works, but I'm not really convinced that it is coming from the eyes... I like the backs of the graves (the streaks seem nicely stylized, and kinda match the back of the wraith), but the rest of the base is defnately a tad wobbly... I think it's just a bit to monotone, but with the wrong tones, if you see what I mean? (not sure that is a very good way of explaining it tbh). Hopefully that'll do you! Good stuff bud. BTW, that's 2 undead things, you starting a VC army? New models soon...! -t.

Thanks mate. =) You're right about the lighting, it sort of worked but as you have said the 'dark' side isn't quite dark enough in most cases. I didn't do it that much in fear of basically making it look too dark to see the actual mini. But something to remember. The eyes, I know where you're coming from. It works, sort of, but it doesn't show that well to be honest - more like a slight showing on the edge of the socket. Needed to be more prominent I think. hehe, I did and have considered a VC army; but never gotten that far. Also, most the vampire minis suck. KU |

If it be the latter, I'd have to see what the new models look like and it might not happen any time soon. haha But, I won't rule it out. -__^ KU | |

Well it has been a while since I've touched this thread, or even a paint brush. But, due to being back a good two weeks before uni starts I figured that I might be able to get something done. I wasn't wrong either. I started an Empire warrior priest some time ago but never picked up my brush to do anything further than an undercoat and a few layers of flesh. Today, that all changed. I have the flesh done and may well have the metal (silver) done or almost done. However, I have hit a snag. The robes. What colour? I did at first think red, but decided against it because that is the GW scheme. Now I am leaning towards a dark green or brown. What do you all think? For reference it is the following mini I'm doing: (sorry for the size, but that's not important) I have no pictures of my own works just yet, perhaps tomorrow but definitely over the next few days. Or at least hopefully. Not like I'm doing much. ![]() Oh, and to forewarn you, my next mini will be the current Mannfred Von Carstein. I so love that mini. Picking him up next Friday. =D Kuffy
