Rep Power: 97 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Someone mentioned worrying about a different scheme looking like a football team. Funny thing is, when I first started 40k (been a good 2-3 years now), I remember being struck by the idea that the wrong paint job can really suggest something other than "superhuman killing machines." I remember seeing a lot of combinations that, on marine power armour, looked a LOT like various American football teams. I remember seeing the Imperial Fists and thinking they looked like DPW (public works) guys. I started imagining them with hand-held "stop/slow" signs and jackhammers, not bolters! ![]() So far, though, yours doesn't look like that. I like the shield, and I think that further emphasizes the "midieval" look that I think you're trying to capture here. Keep it up! |

Well, it's been a while since I posted due to uni and home etc. But, over the last few days I have been working on this dude, and I am quite happy overall. The yellow is now a nice solid colour and the red is a good high quality as well. Using Yellow Ochre mixed with Golden Yellow, then Golden and Sunburst, the yellow came out quite well. The red was done using VMC Carmine Red and then Gory red with Bloody red to follow. The purity seals have been given a coating of Flat Earth, ready to be worked on today. The main problem I can see is that the axe arm still shows up. My ability with greenstuff needs a lot of work, especially the smoothing down and blending of it part. Its not terrible, granted but it could really do with some working on. Please excuse the picture quality, it was taken quickly at about half two in the morning: ![]() As you can see he is moving along nicely, I hope to have him finished by some point either this week or the weekend. Afterwards I have chosen my next Comments and criticism welcome as usual. =) Kuffy |

Ver nice there Kuffy, the red and yellow both look nice and solid, the highlights are very nice too. Are the VMC paints better to use than the GW ones? Are you painting any free hand chapter symbols? What is the axe head going to look like? Dan **Edit** Is the Chapter symbol the griffon or is it a lion rampant?

Dan - They can be, but like normal VGC ones they require a lot of shaking and can sometimes break up into the pigment. But on the whole, they've very good. I have a mixed range of GW, VGC and VMC, of of which I have mixed together many times and not had any serious problems. I would suggest you try some and see what you think for yourself. VMC is easier to find than VGC in Britain, just go to hobby shops that sell modelling kits (ie WW tanks etc), is where I get mine from. I'm still unsure on the freehand, I'd like to but fear ruining it with my lack of ability. Not sure on the axe, suggestions? I'm unsure about including blue as all three primary colours might look a bit much. And it's a griffon. Chered - You expected otherwise? =p Also, anyone got ideas for what to do on the purity seal itself (the round part), as red would just well...blend in. Blue be too much. Any other ideas? Kuffy |

I just had an odd thought that the symbol was the lion rampant. I might have to pick up some VMC, i think my mate has a set ill try and borrow. The purity seals could be black. Mine are painted black. Id suggest a nice green power axe blade, a bit of blending from dark to light. Dan

I would try them, a small experiment. I find them quite good and they have a HUUUGE range of shades per colour, rather than the general GW/VGC - dark - midtone - light versions. Hm, black sounds good. As does the green power weapon. My blending isn't that good and it could do with some work, so that is ideal to try it out on. Cheers. =) Kuffy |

I like to match my purity seals to an accent color on the model, which usually ends up being the color of their lenses. I was going to suggest a black as well, but if you're going to do a green axe blade, maybe some green seals would work also?
