The paint might be too wet. I often need to replace my bleached bone because it is nearly solid, then find out that it is too wet to drybrush with. It usually ends up just turning into a bleach wash.

you might want to add a little bit of enchanted blue or something in with your regal. I suggest buying an empty pot or two and find the right mix needed.

OK- I've managed to wangle a day off and cracked on with painting my Termies. To be fair, things don't look good this month (even worse than I thought) but I'm trying to get as much done as possible. There's only 5 of them, so maybe I'll make it.


On another note- I've fielded a couple of questions about the assault marine legs in my pile'o'bits photo earlier and yes, those are metal assault marine legs and yes, they were produced by GW. Bet you won't find any others in the world.

So, here we are. I've just come back from one work placement and I'm starting another tomorrow. I managed to wangle a couple of days and got a little painting done but not as much as I would have wanted. Here it is-







They're not quite finished (a bit of detail work, some highlighting on the guns and obviously the sergeants head still need finishing) but they're about 225pts and about 90% done which works out pretty close to 200pts for the month. I'm not sure how much more time I'll have this month so this is probably it. With a bit of luck I'll be able to get these guys finished but next month is looking a bit slim!

I know I said I'd probably finish my devs this month but really another 10-12 suits of power-armour really didn't appeal. I've been hankering to paint a Vindie for ages- me and vindicators go waaaaay back.

I'm pretty happy with the tank- the dirt turned out well IMO but not so much the paint scrapes- they don't look as natural as I'd hoped. C&C welcome!

I am seriously jealous of your painting skills, epically that freehand on the side of the fist. From here, your scrapes look mostly natural, and I don't see a way to make it look even better.

Looking great monkey, I also love vindy's. I have one to paint for my Lamenters too, but it is not on my 2000pt list. It will have to wait for the push for 3000.

Right, it's time for me to work out exactly where I'm at and where I'm going with this army over the next few months.

6 months remain and I've one joker left (I've used 2 jokers already but I'm going to ignore one because I painted a squad but never got to posting pics. I'll use the christmas joker to balance my joker zen). So- 1000pts should be done and another 1000pts to go.

ATM I have loosely the following done-

Tac squad (1, Plasma, gun, Heavy Bolter 165pts
Tac Squad (1, Plasma gun, Plasma cannon 180
Tac Squad (1, Melta gun, Missile Launcher 170
Tac Squad (1, Melta gun, Heavy Bolter 165
Terminator Squad (5), Assault Cannon, ChainFist 225
Vindicator, Extra Armour, Dozerblade 135

Total 1040pts


None of these include upgrades beyond the weapons, so Vet Sergs aren't included in the totals because they won't be in every game.

This puts me 40pts over where I should be, which isn't too bad. This month I'm hoping to finish a devastator squad (again with them, I know- they've been queueing for months) which will add 260pts assuming I don't get distracted by any other shiney, shiney new models. That will put me 100pts ahead at the end of April, opening up a gap to paint something smaller, points-wise. Maybe a hero or another vehicle? Currently I have several units lined up that could be painted- an assault squad, the 'tech' squad, a veteran squad and a land speeder.
My original plan to get 200pts ahead to have a free month for basing has been wiped- I've got a joker I can use for that, right?

Also, I think my paint dilemma has possibly been sorted out. I tried a couple of VGC paints to try and match but it didn't really work so I ended up adding a healthy amount of Mordian Blue to my new Regal Blue so that the dry colour is the same as my 'old' Regal Blue, which I used on the infantry. This new mixed colour can be seen on the highlights of the vindicator above. I think it's close enough but I'll keep what's left of my old paint for the rest of my infantry and use the new mix for vehicles.

So, half way and things are looking good. All I have to do is keep my RL under control and things will be sweet. Oh, the optimism!!
