Guess what! I have my first games of 5th edition tomorrow, at a tournament down the road.

I've got 1500 points of Crimson Fists selected (not enough tanks but that's my fault for focussing on troops, I guess) and they're nearly ready to go.

I'm going to have another late night tonight basing the army- at least partially- and finishing off the drop-pod which is turning into the least pleasant painting experience in memory.

Pictures will follow!

Could you post up some WIP shots of the drop pod? I'm thinking of getting one for some Sternguard but if it's as bad as you say I'd like to know what I'm getting in to.

Good luck with the tournament and let us know how it went!

OK- here's a top-up of this thread. Most of this will have been seen over at the ToP thread but this is really to remind me to keep this one going!

Here's some recent and WiP pics.

The last dread pic is probably my next project, once I get time, which will probably be in February. You can see one of the drop-pod icons I love so much already in use.

The AoBR squad is for a LGS and isn't that great. They are pretty cool figures though so there's certainly a chance I'll include one in my own army (maybe even that one if I can't be arsed to do another). The older and variant armours fits well with Crimson Fists.

The drop-pod isn't finished. I had to paint it quickly for a tournament and after base coating I discovered that the two regal blues I'd used were slightly different shades. I also found that it's heaps easier to paint in bits. That one is mostly in bits but I shouldn't have glued the walk-way to the drop-ramp. I'll know for next time. I also haven't done the harnesses- again due to time.

For the future- there's the dread, another dread, a bike squad, some rhinos, a razorback (twin-linked assault cannons!) a land-raider and some more heroes. Also my tech-squad needs painting up at some point but the restrictions on less than 10-man squads has made them trickier to field. I might put them in as sternguard but I'm not certain yet.

More photos in a few months hopefully (I wasn't joking about February- I've got exams and then work placements in Zanzibar and Uganda. Madrid for New Years though! Hurrah!)

I'm going to miss seeing updates here, especially just as I get mine in full swing, but it sounds like you're going to some cool places. The drop pod looks good and I'm curious what sort of pieces / stages you'd recommend painting it in. From the GW assembly tutorial I think I'd try to do the floor and doors first, then add the harnesses and control parts, and finish with the uprights but I'd like to hear your take on it.
