    Koss's Blood angels army WIP

Hello all, its you friendly nieghborhood kossolax the foresworn here,

Recently I've been getting tired of playing the 'bad guys' and have decided to give a stab at the good guys.

Originally i was going to do daemon hunters but found the list too limiting. then i thought of dark angels, but then decided i dont like green. so know i've found an army i can make a likeable list for and paint my favorite color... RED! I plan to make a 2500pts army but it will be a while till i get that far.

I ordered The following heads for my marines:

which arrived in the mail yesterday.

I assembled the first 5 marines: they are part of a ten man squad consisting of 10 marines, 1 laser cannon, and one veteran sergeant w/ powerfist. they will have a rhino some time in the near future.

I took my sweet time assembling them too, so i took of all the flash, and mold lines, put on the proper equipment extcetera. i even gave each one a bolter and bolt pistol like its suppost to be.

Unlike my chaos army, i will take my time on these guys painting them so i can make them look really good.

i will post pictures as i make progress on the first half of the first squad.

I primed them and i am waiting for the primer to dry. after that, i will start painting.

please show your support by subscribing to this thread and adding comments and tips.

    thanks everybody!;Y

    just a small progress note

already finished painting Battle Brother Ares(one of my regular line trooper) and Sergeant Stone(my sergeant). I have them painted and varnished. I will post pics as soon as soon as my parents come home, cuase i can't find the cord to connect the camera to the computor. maybe they can help me find it. already took the pictures though...

Man, painting the figs one by one to get extra attention to each model is really tough, but i kind of enjoy it more than painting mass amount of troops. its kind of like when you paint a independant character, its more fun although time consuming. at this rate, though i think i can paint maybe 5 marines in a day... meaning i will finish my 4 tactical squads in 1-2 weeks. mainly i want to make substatal progress on my new army before my break is over(and yes folks, i decided not to drop out...), while at the same time not rushing things. maybe when i finish the first tactical squad, i will paint a furiouso. anyway, expect pictures acompanying my next post.

I'll keep an eye on this one for sure. However, if you're looking at a long-term kind of deal this really should be in the Projects subforum. I shall relocate it.

    LO Mallfunction

well, i couldn't post the pics up yesterday since LO crapped out on me...

I manajed to finish the squad, but I'm a little discontent. i feel the sergeant came out really well and the other ones are just decent. the varnish did something wierd to the colors, making some of them duller and some of them brighter. any way here they are.

    Battle brother garro

    Battle brother Ares

Battle brother El Ray "give him the gun, give him all the guns!" "That boys got the devil in him..."

Sergeant stone "How much ammo we got serge?" "Not enough!"

    Weapon specialist Jasper

Combat squad 1(part of tactical squad 1)

what do you guys think... actually relooking over the squad, i think they all came out good... except for jasper. Ares looks too much like a word bearer.

They look pretty good, although Ares looks a bit different from everyone else. Maybe the picture is just in a funny light. My only suggestion is to base them, even at a very basic (ha!) level. A base of any kind adds so much to a model.

thanks for the complement xbanditsx. yeah i think the lightiing is wierd wiht ares as he dont look very different unless under a daylight bulb. As for basing, i've always been a fan of the pure black base, basically since it blends in with any board. if feel like if i make them on a grassy base and i'm playing on a lava world board, it looks cheesy. to each his own.

Now I just finished spraying the other half of the squad so i should get started on them in a few hours.;Y

Oh and before i forget... you can check Kossbloodangels.blogspot.com at any time to see my progress if you prefer to do so. I also posted an army list up there.

anyway, i will post later today if i finish the squad. thanks for all the support guys.:drinking:

    Koss,

I have seen your work before and looking at these I have come to the conclusion that you're rushing. These are OK but looking at them they are not something you seem to have taken time over. For instance, you can clearly see large patches of black through the armour and in places. This could of course be part of your army scheme but to me it just looks messy and rushed. The red just isn't the right shade for Blood Angels, they have a clear and distinct shade - quite bright usually - but here they look dirty and sullen; and not due to weathering either. If your title did not say Blood Angels I would have assumed you were creating a Chaos Legion of your own.

These are fixable. I would suggest slowing down. We all want a playable army of the tabletop swiftly, but I would much prefer to have a decently painted one there too, rather than a rushed looking one. Also, red is much easier to get strong and clear when done over a white undercoat rather than black. It is not impossible over black but makes it much harder as you'll need more layers to be placed down until the colour is solid and clean. Red is bed done from either a brown base or dark red (or a reddy-brown mix) with the following layers having a little bit more red within each time. It does take longer but ultimately the models (and by extension the army) will look a lot better compared.

Same goes for basing. Do it! I have seen great looking minis spoilt by a lack of attention to the base. Its also a great way to make a theme stand out. Bases are part of the model, not just something used to make sure they don't fall over.

I agree with Kuff, except I have no problem with painting a strong blood red over black. You do-

    Black Primer
    Mechrite Red
    50% Black/50% Brown Wash
Thinly layer blood red on top of the armour until done.
Highlight with a 50% Mecharious Orange (Or whatever the Foundation Orange is)/50% Blood Red
    Highlight 75%/50% of above colours
    Highlight 100% Orange

I think this is it. I'll check later, as it's written down to get the exact specs.
