OK, this is something I have been meaning to get around to for a while. Not it's finally time for me to use some public accountability to work on the stuff I have waiting to be painted.
For those of you wondering the army I am going to paint in this WIP thread is meant to represent the Planetary Defence Force (PDF from now on) of my space marine chapter, the Penitent Brethren. The brethren will be the next army I will be painting. For the sake of actually getting something done I have decided to not even get them out of their blisters and boxes until I have the vast majority of my Guard painted. This may be some time.
I guess the reason anyone starts one of these threads is to post pictures so I will go and get some of my first Infantry Squad. These guys are run of the mill and I think I will have about six identical squads. The goal is to have them look similar until you look closer. Then I am planning on adding some small conversions...
Standing or seated? It's the old debate and at the moment standing is winning. If you know a good sculptor then please let me know and we can go for the seated version. Otherwise the standees have it!
Thanks for your support!
I thought the best way to start would be to set out and actually start the work. So I have. So without further ado let me put some pictures up. I am going to be trying to show all of the stages that I can be motivated enough to take pictures of. So please have patience with me, I will indicate when I think a model is finished.
I am always open to advice. I still need some thoughts on nmm glass for the visors...
Ok I am trying to increase the pace at which I paint too, so some of this is a bit rough.
Here are the same models with a wash
and then here is an image of the wounded guy. I put the three of these models into a group so that you can see how I progress the squad from point to point. I will keep these three together all the way to finished to illustrate how I do it. Hopefully this will make it this thread a useful reference too...
Here they are
I think the lesson that I have learned here is the same that Cyric learned right at the beginning of his thread. The photos are everything. I think I will wait until daylight until I try to take photographs again. Snapping at the paint table really isn't up to the job...
I am aiming to bring the uniforms upto the same standard as the wounded guy and then I want to apply the camo pattern below except I will be using the red from the shoulder pads and armour as the filler in the starbursts.
This image is from the Games Workshop website. Please do not think that it is my own work. If it is not appropriate for me to post it then someone please let me know and I can remove it or put a link in.
Looking great, looking forward to more progress
Ok, I am on the way to getting a sample of one of my 130 footsloggers finished.
This is where I am at the moment. I am a little bit frustrated as I have been working on ten as a first batch and I keep coming up with so many things to do differently. I decided on a different final shade for the fatigues too which you can see on this model. I am not happy with the armour so I think there needs to be more highlighting there.
This is table top ready but not yet finished.
The restof the batch look like this,
I am going to try and get these based up. I think I may also take a page from Cyric's book and finish some samples of the things I am going to be using in the army so that I know what I am aiming for when I am working on the rest.
I wanted to post some of the WIP images from my governor model. Take a peek!
I hope you are able to get a decent idea of how things are shaping up from these pictures. I have a few more...
I think this one shows off the lines of the seat. I like the way it is coming together now.
That's where I am upto a the moment. I have cut up some imperial guard guys to use for the legs and I will probably be using a plastic cadian torso. I have no idea what I am going to do for a head yet. I guess he needs to be bare-headed as this is the usual thing for characters... I may use the officer head from the COmmand HQ box...
I am really enjoying putting this stuff together while trying to lead an ordinary life at the same time...
Ah well, I will be finished by the time I am 80 I suppose.
