Hello guys, I agree with Dwayne on the horns, but thanks for posting the step-by-step highlighting DavicVC04, it was interesting and gave me some help with the technique. I think it was a good idea to undercoat Beaver Skull White, as the contrast to the overall dark colours of Marge looks great. Can't wait to see what you'll do with the base. ![]() Drey |

Yeah, I found myself trying to glaze the horns to whiten them, but it was too little, too late and just clouded things. I wanted to avoid a whitish base color because I was afraid they'd wash out against the straps. The color at the tips of the horns is what I'd have wanted all the way down. Anyhow, I went for reddish/orange instead and this is the end result.

DavidVC04, I see the purpose, they haven't washed out against the straps. Maybe you could apply stripes of very watered down skull white along the bone, to get rid of the orange nuance. I've used that a lot to try to get rid of layering borders while painting my ogres. It might give the impression of bone fibre running along the horns, if you understand. Just like on Lizardmen Stegadons. I hope it helps to some extent. Though in no way is it a bad paint job.Drey |

| Shazam! ![]() ![]() ![]() | The skin's done. With school out for the summer, I've been able to commit longer stretches of time to painting. I'm subbing for summer school so I've lost some of that time. Still, I've been watching the clock, and it takes me a good 30 minutes to paint each of the first three layers. The final highlight goes quicker but still requires blending and all that crap. It came about to about 2 hours per model. So now the obvious question is JUST WHAT IN THE HELL AM I THINKING? I'm finishing a unit about every two weeks, which is a pretty good clip, so here's hoping I can keep it up. I have the next two months off work with a few minor interruptions. I hope to paint this unit, another unit of Iron Guts, 7 more bulls, at least one unit of gnoblars during that time, assuming I maintain that 2 week average rate of completion. With school out and summer school ending, I'll might even improve that rate. I also have some Wood Elves left to paint, but it's hard to imagine how or when I could get to them. I took a long break from Wood Elves, so painting some more appeals to me more than it did a few months ago. Eventually, I'll get to my Vampire Counts, but I figure that will be winter at the earliest. I really don't want to begin painting it until I've gotten rid of (meaning painted and sold off) all these surplus models. What's worse, is I have 3 more gorgers, a tyrant, a hunter, and Skragg to paint. Like I said, JUST WHAT IN THE HELL AM I THINKING? ![]() So what ideas for pants do you have guys? I'm open to suggestions. I want to stick with the overall look of the army. Same beards, same style pants, same weapons, base, and so on. ![]() ![]()

| Shazam! ![]() ![]() ![]() | For the pants I'm planning a white/blue striped scheme. Using Reaper Master Series paints, I painted the white stripes with Snow Shadow, Snow Shadow/Ghost White, Ghost White, Ghost White/Pure White, Pure White. and then used a light wash of Twilight Blue on them. I decided to try the same wash on the skin and liked it enough to give the models three coats of it. I even went back and gave Marge the treatment. I've tried a few different washes on my different ogre units, but only tonight did I finally find the appropriate wash/glaze. I wish I'd found it sooner...it seems so obvious now. As I use them more, I'm really starting to like the Reaper paints. There's a paint for every occasion in that series. The woman who designed the RMS is a highly skilled painter herself and brought a painter's experience to the paints which I'm learning to appreciate and utilize. ![]() ![]() ![]()

As usual David these are very well painted, even at only this stage. They look great my friend, I bet the army will (if it doesn't already) look very good when all stood lined up. =) Kudos there. I not sure if I have said before, but you have a very good taste for the skin. Better than GWs and different from the 'human' look many players go with. I like it a lot. Keep up this good work, and you can get all that lot done on time. -__^ *looks at own miniature pile* At least you're doing something. =P I have wanted to try the reaper paints, but unsure if it is even possible to get them anywhere near to where I live. I hope so, I don't want to be sending off overseas for them, I have little money as it is!! But they sound quite good. Kuffy

Thanks, King Ulrik, but I have to confess that my skin tone comes from White Dwarf #300 (US ed.). There are four stages wth a mix of Graveyard Earth, Shadow Grey, Kommando Khaki, and Bleached Bone. I've played around on some of the units with mixing two stages to make a fifth, but for gaming models, it's not worth it. Plus, I won that set of 100 paints, so it was inevitable. The Reaper paints are really good, but to be honest, the main reason I use them is because I live about 10 minutes from Reaper HQ. I had begun switching to Vallejo paints before moving here, but nobody nearby sells Vallejo. And Reaper paints are right here, along with lots of awesome painters who will help you with stuff. More work to show tomorrow hopefully.
