This is at three layers of flesh tones. Basecoat, color 2, colors 2 and 3 at 1:1.

I'm not sure how abruptly I'll jump to the 3rd and 4th colors. For most of the characters I've been mixing a lot for intermediary shades.

I doubt that I'll take the skin any further. I need to go ahead and paint the rest of the model before I touch up any rough spots.

I really like the skin too, but I'm going to challenge you- Skrag is the ultimate unhealthy meat-eater. He's not getting his 5+ fruit and vege every day and we all know what that means- Scurvy! The bane of pre-victorian war-fleets and pizza eating students everywhere!

Scurvy causes the breakdown of the skin's connective tissues (or rather it's non-repair and replacement) leading to subcutaneous haemorrhage i.e bruising. Big splotchy nasty bruises and resulting skin discolouration.

My challenge to you is to add some sort of nasty illness associated bruises and what-not to Skrag's otherwise healthy even grey pallor. Joints and eyes are often particularly effected (I think). Reckon you're up for it?

Oh Paint Monkey, don't do that to me. There's no going back from that kind of thing. Once you put that first splotch on there, the paint underneath is forever altered. You also wanted me slop some slosh over the stew-pot. Torture, pure porture.

What I do want to do is redden his scars. I want them to look red and irritated. That sounds like a good compromise, doesn't it Paint Monkey?

I need to look at some pictures and search for some threads in the painting forum.

I'll accept your challenge, but I want to paint some other areas of the model first, get an idea of the overall color patterns. I think I'll do a light varnish of the model and then hit the cloth and leather.

I'm not sure what to do about the pants. All the models in the army have striped trousers except for Large Marge. I really can't visualize him wearing striped pants of any sort, so I think I'm going to do a muddy brick red color for them. The leather areas will look like the Tyrant's, as will the fur cuffs. The base is an entirely different story.

I don't think I realized how big a project the actual Skrag model would be until about 4 days ago, but I'm building up momentum and think I can get him done in 3 or 4 weeks.

As usual David, this is yet again another good looking piece, or the start of. Special characters always need that bit more attention in my mind, so I look forward to the rest of your mini and the completion of this monstrous task. =)

I'm not convinced by this guy. If I only knew what he was thinking...

Maybe he's thinking, "Ho ho ho! Santa Skrag's here with his stew pot of meats, boys and girls," as he checks his list of who's been naughty or nice.

Or perhaps he's thinking, "Ja, my comrades ogres! We have joined the fight for the greater good of the brethren. Here's to fresh kills for ogre and gnoblar alike!"

If I paint the tattered cloth on his shoulders red, then it looks like he was wearing a red jumpsuit at some point in his life, but it was ripped away in subsequent battles. He uses various rusted hooks and rings to stretch the remaining material taut across the remnants of chain beneath it. You know how ogres can be about their attire; Skrag would hate to let blood, guts, or gore foul his chainmail shoulder pads.

I could paint the cloth white like the apron and smear more blood on it.

Great job man. Just joined this thread and am in love with your Ogres. If you keep this up I may have to start an army *looks at wallet, shudders a little*.
Anyways, any chance we could get a army shot of whats completed. Would love to see this badboy all together. Keep up the great work.
