Ogres are mercenaries, which means they're an easy hire, right? So I figure at some point in their past, they worked for a traveling circus. At least, they worked there long enough to get paid in some tent canvas large enough to cover their own indecency.

I learned that orange is a pain to paint and that painting blues across larger surfaces is not as easy painting blues across small surfaces. Highlighting is more difficult. I needed a five step process, not a four step process. Still, I'm satisfied and will work up something different with the next ones.

I need to learn to do tatoos, so any ideas for that are welcome.

I washed all four OK figures with two thin layers. A very watery blue grey and watery brown grey.

The beards are going to be a pain. I don't know what color to do to make them stand out and not look bizarre. Someone recommened a white-green which I would take into pallid flesh and a thin white layered over the top. Sheesh, is it worth the trouble or will I just have to cover it all up in black and start over?

I went ahead and used Foundation Gretchen green to establish a base color. I can see how it jumps off the other colors, but taking that to an off-white isn't going to be easy.

Default Nice beards...

I think the beards look good. What about a highlight of camo green? That would look pretty disgusting (in a good way...). The pants look great!

The metal:

Did you make rust with chestnut ink? I think it looks a bit plain (I don't know if you were still busy with this..). I bought some paint yesterday for my Orks and I found that a light drybrush of Dark Flesh and then Blazing Orange looks very good (I'll post a picture of it later).

edit:
Forgot you wanted to leave the metal alone....nevermind about that

Wow, this army looks awesome so far. Great job on the pants and on the skin, very nice work. Love the color of the beards, very complimentary. I do agree with Adrianus, they could probably use a wash and a very light highlight to really bring them out, but I am guessing that you are already working that.

Spot on mate.;Y

Thanks for the comments. The beards have just a base coat. Rotten/pallid flesh is what I intend to paint on next, then adding white. The picture of the mixture shows what I intended to do, but I backed off and use Gretchen green Foundation when I saw how poorly that pallid flesh was covering. I don't look forward to that.

The beards and top knot got layered up through dead flesh mixed with white. A really crappy color to try and cover small areas with. Then washed with olive green.

Weapons are left and baubles, and then bases.

Default Look At My Horrible Conversions

I still have baubles and trinkets to paint. And then the bases. I plan on doing stone, but I'm not sure what colors to drybrush the rock.

Look at how bad my conversions are. The weapons aren't straight, the green stuff is smeared on like peanut butter. I paint okay but my conversion, no way. However, I did pin a model or two for the first time with these ogres.

That unit is looking really nice. You're right about green stuff- it's a dog to work with. Two simple pointers that I worked out but should really be the beginning of any GS tutorial- you need less than you think and don't use it as soon as you mix it- wait maybe 15 minutes. That reduces the stickiness and makes it easier to work with. Oh, and keep your fingers/tools wet.

Top job so far!

What about the bases? I need help figuring out what to do with them. I was going to glue on a mix of stones and drybrush them, but I'm not sure what colors to use. I don't want the models to wash out against the bases when viewed from above.
